What an incredible day of Test cricket! Ends the day with a wobbling length ball that lands outside off and shapes away big. Starc shoulders arms and walks off.
Australia vs South Africa, Final at London, WTC, Jun 11 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
6.09pm Which camp would you want to be right now? South Africa picked eight wickets, but Australia are already ahead by 218 runs. Runs on the board always crucial. Another 14-wicket day: 14 for 239 on day 2, and could have been a lot more. Australia were 73 for 7 at one stage, and looked like going down quickly with the ball wobbling all around. But Carey and Starc put up a defiant stand, 61 for the eighth wicket. And that's given Australia a lot of breathing space. South Africa were excellent all innings. They induced a lot of edges, which didn't carry. Starc also gave a couple of chances, one a fairly easy one in the final over which Jansen failed to hang on to. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada picked three wickets apiece while Jansen and Mulder picked a wicket each. How much can Australia stretch their lead tomorrow? Will South Africa chase whatever target they get? Will this Test go into day four? Lots of questions to be answered. Join us nice and early tomorrow as we search for some of the answers. Till then, this is me Ashish Pant, signing off on behalf of Alex, Raghav and Ranjith. Ciao!
Lungi Ngidi: We were still in the game, they bowled very well. At the end of the day, we still had a job to do. The coach asked us, do whatever you do, do it with conviction. Obviously, if you go out, go out on your own terms. [His bowling] The first innings was tough, there was no rhythm. I was fighting a lot while bowling. There were some nerves. Once I got the rhythm I went running with it. [Crowd] It was pretty exciting. Hearing my name, just gave me the energy. [SA's position] We are in a good position. Two balls could wrap it up. We will focus on that. Chasing anything under 250 it won't be easy, but we will want to give ourselves the best chance.
vinay: "Carey is the most underrated player I believe. impact in every match is big. pick any series in last 2/3 years. "
Chamal Perera: "Aussies are a bit ahead right now. Another 30 runs tomorrow morning would make them a lot more comfortable."
kevin: "well, SA can't say they didn't have their chances (or half chances). disappointing end to a fighting day!"
Last ball of the day
Length ball on his pad, he works this to deep backward square leg's right and gets two more
Edged and dropped by Jansen at gully. He is distraught. All happening. WOW! Good length ball nibbling away from Starc outside off. He pushes at it, gets thick edge which goes straight in and straight out.
On a length outside off, he watches closely and shoulders arms
Freebie! Wayward length ball waaaay down leg. The keeper can't do much even with a full-length dive to his right
Edged and again this does not carry. Oh, my! This is frustrating. On a length outside off, he gets a healthy edge and the ball still falls short of Bedingham at first slip. Should the keeper had gone for that?
Last over of the day. Mulder to bowl from around the wicket
ashik : "when'll be the new ball available? " In 41 overs time
Play and a miss! Length ball outside off, he pushes at it and can't connect
On a length outside off, he shoulders arms. Hang on, Rabada has overstepped again.
Bavuma does so well to stop a four. Fuller outside off, he screams the drive and Bavuma runs to his right, dives and saves three
Good length ball on middle and leg, he looks to work this to the leg side. Misses and is rapped on the pad
Edged and that is nowhere near carrying. On a length shaping away from the batter, who pushes at it and gets a thick outside edge. Markram, even with the helmet on and quite a bit in front can't reach it
Length ball well outside off stump, he shoulders arms. Another no-ball. Rabada is hobbling back
Nathan Lyon walks out at No. 10.
Huge, huge appeal for lbw. The umpire agrees, Carey reviews. This looks much close. Rabada gets the ball to deviate back into Carey from that around the wicket angle. Is the ball doing too much? No bat, on we go. Hits him in line, and it comes up as umpire's call on leg stump and Carey has to depart.
Ahsan: "How much will be too much for SouthAfrica?" Is this too much, already?
Short of a good length ball outside off, he punches to the left of deep point for a couple of runs
On a length on off, he pushes towards mid-on. And there's another no-ball from Rabada. A fairly big one.
Bhuvi: "Maybe bring on Markram and see if his golden arm can produce a breakthrough as he did in the first innings." Rabada to continue for now
Gently floated outside off stump, he eases this to long-on
Out comes the sweep and he gets four with it. Floated on off stump, he slams this behind square and places it well enough
The lead is 200 now! Huge cheers from the Aussies in the crowd. Marginally short on middle stump as he goes back and works this to deep square leg
Hangs the length ball back as he pushes to Maharaj
Floated outside off, he pushes to point
