Game over! Crunched for a six! Harbhajan roars. Tendulkar smiles. Gautam's face drains out of expressions. Harbhajan rushed down the track and slugged it over wide midwicket boundary. Nice and easy. KKR out of the tournament. Mumbai Indians stay in. Tendulkar, for some reason still padded up, walks out to the middle to congratulate his team-mates. Huge smiles, as you would expect in the Mumbai camp.
KKR vs MI, Elimination Final at Mumbai, IPL, May 25 2011 - Match Result
MI won by 4 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)
Tendulkar high-fives with the ice-cool James Franklin. Mumbai have also qualified for the Champions League.
Franklin: "It's not sunk in yet. I am relieved. Unfortunately, we lost a few wickets in the middle. Harbhajan came out and hit that four and that six. My role was to stay till the end. Bhaji got those boundaries and took off the pressure. Quality players step up and he (Harbhajan) is one of them. Bangalore will be tough opposition. This is Play-off cricket. We are here to win and I hope we do."
Sudheer: "I bet Tendulkar still padded up was a sentiment of sorts... have seen him doing that many times during crucial matches."
Rakesh Misra: "Poor Gambhir had to see KKR's last 2 matches against MI end with a six over deep midwicket!"
Adrian Blizzard: "We are pumped. Slightly disappointing that we had to scrape through in the end. Relief. We have now qualified for Champions League. When you go out with Sachin, it gets too loud out there with the crowd support! It's a great experience. We have played Bangalore without Gayle. He is a massive factor in their success. We will get a good sleep tonight and think about that challenge tomorrow."
Kowshik: "What is IPL ? It is a competition where 9 teams will play hard to reach the finals to play against Chennai Super Kings!"
Gautam Gambhir: "We played some good cricket. Some of the games we could have won. The boys were professional and showed what character they are made off. Even today, Mumbai were cruising but the boys fought hard. Ryan played well. He is a fantastic guy and a fantastic cricketer. A captain is only as good as his team. There are no great captains and there will never be. with the fantastic bunch I didn't have to captain!"
Tendulkar: "I thought we were very much in control. fabulous start to the bowling and to the batting. Victory means a lot. In between we had a rough patch but there has been a good turn around in the last two games. That's a right tonic for the team. Fabulous start from Blizzard, something we needed today. Some big shots played by him. This was one of the very few good starts we had in entire tournament. And then Franklin and that shot from Harbhajan. Rayudu is a youngster and you let him react the way he does. He will mature. You just let him be. Harbhajan has always been aggressive. We have had characters in tennis like McEnroe... We need characters like that in cricket."
Man of the match is Munaf Patel. "Bowling is going well. Body is also holding up despite playing so much. I am happy that team is doing well. These days I enjoy. I have learned to relax. Previously I used to put too much pressure on myself and had forgotten to smile. These days i am enjoying my cricket. All the talks with the coaches have helped. I am also much fitter now and that has helped my fielding."
Good bye and good luck. Ta ta.
slow through the air, outside off, driven to long-on for a single Bhaji on strike
Seven from the final over. Who to bowl? Gautam has gone for the spinner of course. Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib wants his men placed precisely where he wants them. The men move. here we go
Dot ball. Lee gets close to Harbhajan. They talk. It was a bouncer that went past the attempted pull. Goswami threw the ball back to Lee who caught it and kept on walking towards Harbhajan who walked towards him and eventually past him. Chat. Wicked fun.
Lee goes around the stumps and keeps this full and straight, Franklin drives it to long-on
Lee wants some fielding changes. fine leg up
Low full toss time. Franklin drives to left of sweeper cover. Harbhajan wants the second. Franklin is late. Ryan makes a sliding save and fires the throw but Franklin gets back in time
ah! another really full delivery, almost a yorker and Bhaji was almost lbw. The boot seemed in the way but somehow he crouched and got the bat just in time ahead of the boot to dig it out to long-on!
goes for the yorker this time, Bhaji digs it out, lee leaps to bring it back
It flew off the edge and then off his helmet grill!
Lucky top edge! It was a lovely bouncer at the body, a cramped-up Harbhajan is late on the pull but top edges it to his helmet grill and it flies to the fine-leg boundary!
Crumble rumble! Shakib is da man tonight. Suman implodes. It was tossed up slowly on a length around off and Suman goes down the track and chips it to Manoj at long-off. The ball popped up but he held it on the rebound and then lobs it up and kicks it off his right foot
flighted up on a length on the middle, Suman goes down the track and pushes it back to the bowler
leans forward to tap it to left of cover for a single. Very calmly done.
slower, on the middle and off, turned to midwicket
leans forward to ping long-off. Shakib throws in a desperate dive but can't reach
around off stump, Franklin taps it quietly to left of backward point
full and on the middle and leg line, Suman leans forward to defend and almost chips it back to the bowler. It landed short. Iqbal shuffled to his right and got behind Franklin. Perhaps a more desperate diving effort was needed. Not sure whether he would have got it even if he tried but it was worth the laundry bill
on the leg and middle, spins on to the pad and rolls away
Nicely done! Wider outside off, Franklin presses back, waits on that back foot and cuts it late well to the left of short third man
this one was delivered from a round-armish angle and it skidded on outside off, Franklin was beaten, lunging forward to defend
full and around off stump, punched out to sweeper cover
slip and silly point in for Suman
shortish outside off, cut away to deep point region
