that will be that! A comfortable win for the Knight Riders! Ali Khan goes for the wide yorker. Mills counters it by shuffling across. Gets down low and then scoops it brilliantly over short fine leg. All in vain in the end, with the Giants succumbing to a healthy 37-run defeat!
KnightRiders vs Giants, 12th Match at Dubai, ILT20, Jan 19 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
9:53pm That will be all from us for tonight. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and we will be back soon with more cricketing action. Until then, this is goodbye from Chetan and myself!
Michael Pepper, Player of the Match: When I went in, when the ball was hard, it came on nicely. Not too much bounce in the wicket. Through the innings, it got slower and slower, started turning a little bit more. (On if he had to change his natural game based on the surface) A little bit. There is a lot of instinct that goes on…waiting for your areas and then going from there. It is a long order, everyone can hit it out of the ground but it still has to be the batters that score runs. Take responsibility and cash in when it is your day. (On the difference between Abu Dhabi and Dubai) Quite different. There is more swing and seam in Abu Dhabi, more pace and bounce there as opposed to the two wickets we have played on here.
Sunil Narine, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders captain: (On Ibrar) We have seen him in the T10 so we know what he is about. He has been putting in the work in training and he showed what he is about. We were always thinking two steps ahead and there were more hands on deck. We could have gone closer to 200 (after our start). Losing wickets in clusters denied (us) and that is something we can work on (moving ahead). (On the batting depth) It is a good problem. You have players batting down the order who might be playing higher otherwise. The guys are willing and it is about them trying to make the best of whatever position they get.
James Vince, Gulf Giants captain: (On Aayan) He was superb, bowled well last night too. Seen him grow in the last couple of years. Four big wickets and a brilliant spell. In the first half of our bowling innings, we made scoring easier than it should've been. We fought back well and restricted them. With the bat, I guess one of our top order not getting in. We were outplayed across all departments. They bowled well, hit the top of the stumps. There was a bit of variable bounce. We were not able to combat (their bowling).
9:38pm A fairly easy win for the Knight Riders. The Giants never got going and were always playing catch-up after losing both openers inside the powerplay. There were cameos from Ibrahim, Erasmus and Hetmyer but none of their batters lasted long enough to transfer any pressure onto the Knight Riders, who were tight with their lines and lengths. Ibrar was perhaps the most impressive of the lot, regularly hassling the batters for pace. The rest were not shabby either, and each of them did what was expected of them.
streaky! Ali Khan tests out the middle of the track again. Gets this up to Mills' shoulder and the ball flies off the top edge over the keeper's head as Mills swiped at it
searing yorker that tails in and tails in too much for the bowler's liking. Sneaks past the inside edge of the bat and also sneaks past leg stump
another short ball. Mills tries to upper-cut this but is beaten for pace for the second ball running
banged into the track on off. Mills swings himself off his feet but still cannot lay bat on ball
Mills in at 10
Mark Adair falls off the first ball of the 20th! Length outside off. Adair was always going to have a go at it but slices across it a little too much. Mayers is stationed at deep backward point for exactly that sort of miscue and gobbles up the chance. Should have probably run the single, eh?!
Unless something dramatic happens, this game is in ADKR's bag. Adair wanted strike for the start of the last over and hence denied the single. Can he reduce the margin of defeat? Ali Khan to bowl
slanted in full on the stumps. Uzair digs it out towards extra cover and then gets sent back by his partner
that will be that for Aayan! Cutter on a length outside off. Aayan has a huge swing at it but does not get the contact he desires. Shanks it straight to Evans and Holder has his second!
another slower ball but this is in the slot and laced with width. Aayan gives it everything he has and carves it over extra cover!
slower ball on a length outside off. Adair swings his bat like an axe and drags it towards deep mid wicket
slower yorker on off. Adair waits for the ball to drop and then opens his bat face to steer it past short third for a couple of runs
yorker outside off. Adair's ambitious attempt to play the scoop is thwarted and he gets pinged on the boot instead. Well outside the line, though
zipped in middle and leg. Adair has a huge swing at it and seems to get a scratch before the ball strikes the pads. Ali Khan was interested in the lbw but no real support from elsewhere
slower ball into the track outside off. Aayan backs away and jabs it to sweeper cover
full toss on the pads. Adair flicks it towards deep backward square leg and this time, has to settle for a single
yorker on leg stump. Adair digs it out towards deep backward square leg for a couple of runs
dropped and Willey parries it into the fence too! Fullish outside off. Adair swings like a rusty gate and the ball skews off the outside edge. Willey runs back from short third, gets both hands to it but cannot hold on. And makes matters worse by conceding the boundary
length ball way outside off. Aayan has a pop at it and chips it down to deep backward point
full and wide outside off. Aayan throws the plumbing at it and slices it towards deep backward point
slower ball hung up on a length wide outside off. Aayan has a huge swish at it and only connects with fresh air
