There's a surreal moment of disbelief here. Wahab thinks he's got his man. It's full and swinging, and there seems to be a sound as it passes the edge. The Kings celebrate, barely appealing, but the umpire refuses to give it out. After a few moments, the Kings refer and replays show a clear edge. What a dominant win this has been for the Kings!
Jaffna vs Stars, 9th Match at Colombo, LPL, Dec 10 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
And with that, it's a wrap from us. Be sure to join us again tomorrow for another double-header. Good night!
Post match
Dhananjaya de Silva: "Our plans didn't work out at all, we need to rethink all of this. [I chose to bowl first] because of the conditions. We had three seamers and we wanted to take advantage of that. [Going forward] we're going to have to rethink some of our combinations and tactics."
Thisara Perera is named Player of the Match: "I think as a batting unit we've done a really good job. Yeah [batting first] was an advantage, it was a good toss to lose. In these conditions it's difficult to grip the ball, so we didn't want to bowl first [after the rains]."
After a horror start on the opening night, the Jaffna Kings are starting to show why they're defending champions, as they go top of the table on 6 points. Thisara Perera once again stole the headlines with a 20-ball half century to go with his 19-ball effort on Wednesday. But this was a team effort if there ever was one; despite their openers falling cheaply, the middle order came through with several cameo efforts and Thisara provided the icing on the cake.
Then with the ball, Maheesh Theekshana ripped the spine out of the Colombo line-up, picking up both openers inside the powerplay before returning later to remove the set pair of Dinesh Chandimal and Ashan Priyanjan, who had briefly threatened with a 41-ball 61-run stand. He would finish with figures of 4 for 25. Wahab Riaz and Wanindu Hasaranga would combine for the rest of the scalps, highlighting the bowling depth at Jaffna's disposal.
Colombo though will have a lot to ponder. Their decision to bowl first was questionable, but more worrying will be the continuing troubles faced by their batters. Their net run rate took a big hit today as well.
Bouncer on the free hit, and he duck-hooks it away on the leg side.
Full toss, and it's a swing and a miss. But the umpire's think it's over waist high.
It's full and straight, and Naveen charges him. Manages to carve it through the covers.
Wahab goes around the wicket.
Length ball, straight. Naveen produces a solid forward defence.
So last man in now..
He's nicked this. Length ball, the batter stays back to cut but can only edge it to the keeper. Replays showed that it was extremely close to being a no-ball, but guess he had a sliver behind the line.
Better this time. Length on the stumps and defended back.
Wanindu trying things out. This is a flatter, faster, more side-arm googly. Doesn't have the direction though.
Flighted again, spins past Chameera's outside edge.
This is toss right up, and Chameera just dead bats it.
Length ball, and it's the googly. Cut away for a single.
Full on leg stump, flicked away square.
And Colombo decide to take their strategic timeout after the first ball of the over. Odd timing. We might see a change in strategy aimed at improving their net run rate.
length, legspin, but strays down leg.
Bouncer and Prasanna ducks under it.
Low full toss, chipped in the midwicket region.
Quick and full, beats the outside edge as the batter hangs a bat out.
Quick on leg stump. Prasanna goes for a pick up over square leg, but misses as the ball hits his pad.
Back of a length and defended back to the bowler.
Slower ball, slips out of the hand and is a fairly high full toss. Prasanna swats that back over the bowler.
