digs it into the pitch again, but tighter into off stump this time. Kumara can't connect
Dambulla vs Warriors, 2nd Match at Colombo, LPL, Dec 06 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's it from us for this match. Madushka Balasuriya will have the second match of this double header for you. Hop over to that page. Meantime, take it easy.
Giants captain Shanaka: "We should have done better with the bat in the middle overs. But we're happy with the win."
Warriors captain Angelo Perera: "We lost it in the first five overs. We did pull it back with the ball. We were expecting to chase 220, but we kept them to 190."
Unsurprisingly, Phil Salt is the Player of the Match for his 64 off 27 balls. "I'm just going out there trying to play positive cricket," he says. "I know from playing out here a few times that the new ball doesn't stay new for very long, and you've got to make the best of it."
Superb start to the tournament for Dambulla Giants - a win really set up by Phil Salt and Niroshan Dickwella at the top of the innings. They put on 97 runs together in the first 7.4 overs, and from that point on, it was always going to be tough for Warriors.
Warriors did fight with the bat thanks largely to Powell's 42 off 21, but the best they could do was get close enough so their net run rate wasn't too badly damaged.
short ball, fired too wide down the offside
full on the stumps, whipped out toward deep midwicket for a single
pummelled over deep midwicket. This is length on the stumps and its absolutely mowed over deep midwicket. Fernando thinks he's in business again, but that' just hit a little too well and carries too far over the rope.
attempted bouncer, too short again
fullish ball, on the stumps, lifted over the legside into the deep midwicket region where Nuwanidu Fernando is into the action again
slower ball again, the batter misses
dear sweet lord that's a catch! This is a short, slower delivery, mis-hit towards deep midwicket and Nuwanidu Fernando pulls off what is going to be tough to beat as the catch of the LPL. Sprints full-tilt towards the ball, throws himself in the air as if he's been shot out of a cannon, intercepts the ball inches from the ground, fully in the air, and holds on to hit as he hits the ground. Outstanding.
full on the stumps, clipped to deep square leg
slower ball on the stumps, but Jayaratne has picked it and picked the bones out of it. Waited for hit, cleared his front leg, and larruped it hiigh over deep midwicket for six.
length ball, angled from wide of the crease into the stumps, bashed down the ground to long on
shortish ball, pulled away to deep square leg
length delivery, swiped away to deep midwicket, far enough from the fielder to allow a couple
aaaalmost carries to long on - could the fielder have done better. This is a back of a length ball on the stumps. Batter hits it high towards long on, but the fielder doesn't run in hard enough, and just fields it on the bounce
a single down to long on
slower ball, very full, just outside off stump. Colombage tries to slam this down the ground but misses
makes room again, but Karunaratne follows him with a length ball. Batter shovels it towards long on and they sprint two
bouncer, but on this exceptionally bouncy Khettarama pitch, it's too short and over the head. Dickwella does well to pull that in with a big leap
another flat-batted shot, this time past mid off. Length on the stumps, again Colombage makes room. It was in the air and Imran Tahir goes for the catch, but can't quite reach. It skips past him and on to the rope
length ball on the stumps. Colombage makes room and tennis-forehands this back over the bowler's head for four
