heaved miles up in the air, but it falls right in the middle of the fielders converging from long on, cow corner and midwicket. No matter, Cape Town Blitz have still wrapped up a win!
Blitz vs Giants, 7th Match at Cape Town, MSL 2018, Nov 21 2018 - Match Result
Blitz won by 12 runs (D/L method)
So, Cape Town Blitz win their third match in three and they maintain their position at the top of the Mzansi Super League Table. Their victory was set up by Janneman Malan's fifty and rapid contributions from the middle order, and sealed by an excellent effort with the ball, and particularly from Dale Steyn. After Giants' top order was blown away in a virtually unplayable opening spell from Steyn, they were never really in the hunt despite Kuhn's fifty.
"Just a little shaken up at the start there. Dale Steyn, people may say he's 35 but he's still as quick as ever and as good as ever," says Heino Kuhn, who was hit on the head first ball by Steyn earlier, before registering a battling fifty. "Still a long way to go. A lot of things to work on. I must congratulate [Cape Town Blitz] as they bowled really well."
Janneman Malan is the Player of the Match. "The wicket was pretty good," he says. "Good toss to win, and we had a good start. The short ball didn't skid on as much, so I tried to take advantage of it. It's a bit frustrating [not to score more], but I'll take the learnings from this one."
Farhaan Behardien: "What a great start. The back end was quite tough there, we had to be on point and fortunately enough the bowlers were. We're happy with the three wins. Good to get some momentum and confidence."
Jon-Jon Smuts: "We probably didn't bowl at our best. It was tough, and the way they bowled in the first six was exceptional. Dale was very good. A few disruptions didn't help us."
That's all from us tonight. Join us again on Friday for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants' home game against Durban Heat at St George's Park. Until then, goodbye!
a full toss is thrashed down to long off, and they rush back for two
slower ball from Phehlukwayo, and all Second can do is heave it out into the deep on the leg side without great timing
17 off 3 now
up and over long off, and Second finds the boundary to keep his team alive!
Second backs away and hacks a length delivery through extra cover. The call comes early for a quick second run
full outside off, and McLaren crunches a drive to extra cover
Six balls left, and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants need 26. It's not impossible ...
Second walks across his stumps, looking for a paddle to fine leg, but Adams follows him with a full, wide one and he can't get it away
slapped in the air, but he's not middled it and the ball drops short of the fielder at deep midwicket
McLaren jumps down and fetches a slower ball from off stump and swings it out to deep midwicket
much better from Adams this time, a yorker aimed right at the off stump. Second digs it out to cover
if he'd left this, it would have been a wide. Adams slings down a full ball way outside off, and Second just throws the bat at it to get the ball down to third man. That was barely on the pitch ...
If Cape Town Blitz bowl Giants out for 115, they'll gain a bonus point
pulled in the air, but it falls right between the fielders out at long leg and cow corner
Two overs to go, and Giants need 35. This over has got to go. Ferisco Adams will bowl it
innovation first ball from Rudi Second! He walks across to paddle a full ball in the air but in the gap past short fine leg
slower ball, an offcutter, and it's chopped down to third man
Talat is closer to the line this time, inside it in fact as McLaren plays over the top of a yorker outside off
whoops, this slips out as a very full, wide one, and it's called as such by the umpire
two in two! Another slower ball, and this time it's Jonker who shimmies out and heaves to leg. Again he gets some elevation, but again there's not enough distance to beat the fielder. Hussain Talat is on a hat-trick.
Morris falls first ball! Hussain Talat has struck with his second delivery, and Cape Town Blitz are closing in on another win. Morris walked down to meet a slower ball from Talat, and he got a fair connection but couldn't beat the man positioned perfectly at deep midwicket
Siboto is off the field having some work done on his hand. He had to stop a very firm drive to effect that run out
offcutter to start, and it's slugged out to deep square
Three overs to go, and Giants need 42. Jonker and Morris can hit a long ball, but this could be beyond even them. Hussain Talat will bowl one of them - his first of the game
very full on off stump, and it's dug out to long on
