Sussex were in deep trouble at close of play on day three against
Glamorgan. They ended the day at 168 for 4, following on with 376 runs
behind Glamorgan's first innings. Earlier they were bowled out for 342
in their first.
Sussex were in trouble right from the start in their second innings.
Their top order batsmen Mike Yardey, Richard Montgomerie, Tony Cottey
and Will House were all back in the pavilion leaving Sussex tottering
at 50 for 4. It was left once again to Chris Adams (68 not out) in the
company of Robin Martin Jenkins (40 not out) to steady their innings.
The two have added an unbeaten 118 runs so far to end the day at 168
for 4. Sussex are still 208 runs behind Glamorgan's first innings
total of 718 for three declared. Glamorgan are now clear favourites to
complete their fifth win of the championship and move to the second
spot in the second division.
Earlier, Sussex resuming at their overnight score of 112 for five,
rescued their side with a 232 runs partnership for the sixth wicket
between Chris Adams (156) and Umer Rashid (110). Both Adams and Rashid
scored centuries. It was Adams' first century of the season and twenty
seventh of his career while Rashid hit the first of his career. Their
stand worth 232 runs in 64 overs for the sixth wicket ended when Adams
was dismissed for 156. Sussex from 318 for 5 then crumbled to 342 all
out with the new ball doing most of the damage. For Glamorgan, seamer
Alex Wharf took a career best 5 for 68.
