backs away but that's a gem of a last ball to end a gem of a last over. Follows the batsman and bowls a yorker and the batsman gets cramped for room and cannot put bat to ball which goes to the wicketkeeper
Zalmi vs Gladiators, 9th Match at Sharjah, Feb 17 2017 - Match Result
Maqsood and Tamim Iqbal's 75-run partnership is PZ's highest for the 4th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 71 between Eoin Morgan and Haris Sohail
6.56pm Confirmation coming through that the match has been called off. The rain is quite heavy now and both teams will share a point each. Gloomy end to what should have been an exciting top-of-the-table clash. So nothing changes on the points table as the two teams retain their position on top of the table. Friday evening, Sharjah, so much history associated with it and so many memories that come flooding in. And who would have thought we will have a washout? Anyway, it is what it is. One more match coming up, and all we can do is hope there is no repeat and we get in a good game. Do stay tuned for the clash between Islamabad and Karachi. Cheers!
Monish Pokhrel: "55 from 36 balls was so obious for Gladiators, and I think that would be unfair for Zalmis to lose. So i feel that 'match abandon' is the unbiased result for both the team. Hope to see second game uninterrupted."
anees zed: "With Friday being the only weekly holiday, you have to feel for the crowd."
6.55pm All set for the start then. Thisara Perera is opening the innings with Ahmed Shehzad and Zalmi is starting with pace. Hasan Ali to bowl the first over. And guess what? It's drizzling.
Off they go. More work for groundstaff as the covers come on. Story of the day.
6.49pm Play to start at 6.55pm. Target is 55 from six overs. Two overs of Powerplay.
6.40pm Eighteen minutes to go for the cut-off time. Still drizzling in Sharjah.
Umair: "is it bad enough to effect the second game too..??" That's a bit hard to say. The rain is not that heavy. Just on and off. Of course, it's been persistent for the last few minutes, but still fairly light, so it may be more hours of frustrating wait when the time comes for the second game, I'm afraid.
The latest is that the game has been reduced to nine overs and the target for the Gladiators is 79. We are looking at a 6.40pm start.
And even as I finish typing that, more covers come on.
6.26pm Some of the covers have come off, but it is still raining.
Tamim Iqbal: Obviously frustrating. We have put up a good total and need to finish the job with the ball. It's a very difficult wicket to bat on and we have some good bowlers. I don't know if there will be more reduction in overs. We will see what we get and then accordingly take things forward.
6.20pm More covers have come on now. Still 38 minutes away from cut-off time, and chances of play dissipating by the minute.
6.10pm The cut-off time is 6.58pm, which is 48 minutes from now. If play does not begin by then, the match will be called off.
The revised target for the Gladiators was to be 125 provided there are no more interruptions. But now that we are in the middle of another break, it will likely be revised again. There are even bigger covers in place now, which means the rain must be heavier.
5.57pm Looks like the break will extend to more than the scheduled 10 minutes. The rains has started to fall down again and the covers have been put in place.
Hamza: "Will there be an increase in target by D/L method???" Yes, there will. Waiting for official word on the revised target.
Mazhar Shehzaad: "Tamim scored 53% of Peshawar's runs. A trend in this PSL. Individual players scoring a big percentage of the team total."
5.50pm So Peshawar have managed to put up 117 for 3 despite all the interruptions. Must have been frustrating for the Zalmi batsmen to go off and come back on and rediscover the momentum T20 cricket demands. But Tamim Iqbal has played a wonderful innings and given his team a total to play with. This pitch has assistance for the spinners and the ball will grip and turn, and it could be a tricky target for the Gladiators to chase down. Join us shortly for the chase.
slower low full toss, whipped away off the pads to deep midwicket
on the blockhole and on the stumps, dug out into the leg side and they can only get a single. Been an excellent last over so far
very full ball, almost a yorker, wide outside off and Tamim drills it wide of mid-on
fuller ball, slower in pace as well and Tamim reaches a long way outside off looking to slog, can't get the timing right and completes the shot way too early as the ball goes to the wicketkeeper
backs away and looks to go inside-out but can only drill it to extra cover for a single
Perera to bowl the last over. Comes from around the wicket to the right-hander
Right then. We have a bizarre timeout with one over remaining. That's an odd way to make up for lost time.
Fahad Rahim : "What's the purpose of strategic timeout one over before scheduled end of innings? Can't they add one more over in place of this useless timeout? " The mysteries of T20 cricket!
very full ball, drilled down to long-off
yorker, squeezed out to sweeper cover
Zulfiqar just can't get the ball to pitch, can he? another full toss and this one is slogged hard and high and deep into the deep midwicket fence. That's a humongous hit. Wet ball, must be hard to grip it
full toss again and that is a massive six. Tamim lays into a pull shot as the ball goes into the deep midwicket fence. That's the fifty for Tamim
backs away early and the bowler follows him with one that slides in with the angle on leg stump. It's a full toss and is drilled out to sweeper cover
tossed up outside off, pushed along the ground to long-on
Two overs left in the innings. Zulfiqar from around the wicket to the left-handed Tamim.
very full ball outside off, jams the bat down and squeezes it out to sweeper cover
advances down the ground to meet the pitch of this length ball and shovels it wide of long-on. Tremendous strike
backs away but the bowler follows him and fires it full on leg stump as Maqsood is forced to drill it to mid-off
can't get hold of this slog and the ball goes along the ground to deep square leg
tries to shuffle across and slog it and the skews it off the leading edge as the ball drops short of the fielder running in from long-off
fullish length ball outside off and he absolutely thumps it as he fetches it from outside off and slogs it over deep midwicket. In the slot and he lays into the shot. Bat makes a lovely follow-through and tremendous balance as well
A drizzle has started again.
backs away to make room for himself, too much flight on this ball and ends up bowling a full toss that is whipped down to long-on, the ball is fielded before the boundary
short ball, turns a mile after landing and Maqsood ends up dragging his attempted slap towards mid-on
