Peshawar win by one! Full toss on middle stump, and it's been smacked over Dawson! Dropped at long on but he's quick to throw it back in. The batsmen try to take the second, but they can't make it. Dawson takes the bails off at the non-striker's and Quetta Gladiators are eliminated.
Zalmi vs Gladiators, Eliminator 1 at Lahore, Mar 20 2018 - Match Result
Zalmi's 1-run win against Gladiators is their smallest margin of victory in terms of runs in T20s, beating 3-run win against Kings
Anwar Ali and Mir Hamza's 23-run partnership is QG's highest for the 9th wicket in T20s, breaking the record of 17 between Babar and Mohammad Nabi
11.50pm That's all from Lahore tonight. Quetta Gladiators' season comes to an end but we still have two games to go in this tournament. Tomorrow we meet again for the second eliminator to see who will join Islamabad United in the finals. Will it be Peshawar who come up on top tomorrow or will Karachi's rampage continue? Guess we'll find out in 24 hours. For now, it's goodbye from all of us at ESPNcricinfo. See you soon!
11.40pm Time for the presentation. Hasan Ali (2-21) is the Man of the Match. He says: "As long as we win, it's okay to win late. The last over was a lot of pressure because of Anwar's sixes. The way Sarfraz played, we felt the pressure back then too. I am fit now, both with the new ball and the old ball. Finally, a big thank you to the Lahore crowd."
Losing captain Sarfraz Ahmed: "The match was in our hand, and I feel we lost the game because of our own errors. Nawaz and I shouldn't have been out that time. If we were sensible off the last ball, we could've had the super over, but the pressure got the better of the boys at the end. The way the pitch was, it didn't matter whether we batted first or second today. Our journey this year has been full of ups and downs, but Nadeem (our owner) has been excellent. Hope to come back stronger next year."
Winning captain Darren Sammy: "Needing 25, you tend to back your own team. The games against Quetta are always excellent, the crowd was great too, and honestly, a win is a win. At the start of the tournament, we lost some players. So, credit goes to these guys. Our coaches worked with the boys, and today, I needed them to step up. Sameen's two wickets were crucial, Asif was great, but our two seniors: Wahab and Hasan showed their class. Dawson the way he batted, without that innings we wouldn't be hear today. We enjoy this win, but need to take on Karachi again. Got to come back and do the basics right. Hopefully, we can continue this."
zulfi: "from Argentina losing final to Germany and twice to Chile, to Quetta losing two consecutive finals with RCB losing the final too... What should there fans like me do....? wait for SA to win WCup?"
Tariq: "Dawson made two fifties today. While batting, and bowling as well."
Saqib: "Why Hamza didn't run???? Poor running cost the match. "
Adnan: "Remember those 5 over throws?? "
11.27pm Another classic Peshawar-Quetta encounter tonight. Dawson conceded 23 off that final over, but Quetta fall short by a solitary run. The Quetta fans are in tears. Hafeez, Dawson, Kamran, Sammy celebrate! Quetta fall short to Peshawar once again but they'll think of all the 'what ifs'. The double-wicket over that included the dismissals of Sarfraz and Nawaz, the extra runs conceded in the field, the overthrow that went for four, all of that will hurt Quetta tonight. Peshawar are through to the second eliminator, where they face Karachi Kings tomorrow.
Don't forget Dawson's contribution with the bat, though. He was the only one to score a fifty today, and it was his 35-ball 62 that even took Peshawar to 157. Even if Peshawar would've lost tonight, it was his batting that gave their bowlers some sort of target to work with.
Quetta need 3. Two for a super over
over long off! This is unbelievable. Good length just outside off, Anwar comes down the wicket again and bunts it over Dawson's head. Tears in the stands among Peshawar fans
Quetta need 9 off two
lifted! Over long on. Flat ball outside off, and Anwar once again charges down the wicket to smack it to the leg side. Full follow through of the bat!
full and wide outside off. Tries to drive this inside out over cover, but takes the inside edge. Goes to short fine leg, and refuses the single
Sid: "Not taking away anything from his commitment, but why did Sammy play this game when he is clearly unfit? It is different if you got injured during the game and you give your 100% to help your team, but it doesn't make any sense to play when you start limping from the first ball you face. Easy target on the field to pick up singles, and a liability while batting to rotate the strike. "
ten off two! Quetta aren't going down just yet. Full outside off, and Anwar shimmies down the wicket. Meets it on the full, and muscled over long on. This game ain't over just yet
full outside off, and Anwar takes a big swing at it. Takes the top edge, and falls past Sammy's left. He's hobbling across - at third man - but Dawson's not pleased at all
Liam Dawson to bowl the final over. Quetta need 25. Anwar Ali has taken his helmet off
Mazahir: "When he (Wahab Riaz) is on song, he really means business, brilliant bowling by him."
Waleed : "So who's gonna captain Karachi tommorow as imad is injured and Morgan not coming to pakistan..??" -- Shahid Afridi
Muhammad Arif: "We, the people of Pakistan want to thank all the foreign players for coming to Pakistan... Especially sir Sammy and sir Richards... Love and respect from the people of Pakistan."
yorker on off stump. Bottom edged by the batsman but the ball goes nowhere. It's near his boots, and Wahab ends with a dot. Akmal runs across and hugs Wahab for that over
Malik Murad: "The best part of T20 is that it changes so quickly, until the 10th over, QG were pretty much set to win this contest but just one over (Sarfu and Nawaz wickets) changed the entire scenario."
Malik Fakhar: "Carlos braithwate needed by quetta..."
Umer Farooq: "wise capitancy from sammy. not thinking of last over and putting his best bowlers who gave the desire result"
edged! And that's the second wicket of the over. Good length on off stump, and Hasan tries to run this down fine. Gets bat on ball, but ends up edging it straight to Akmal. Quetta need 25 off 7
Taha: "Brilliant captaincy by limping leader! "
Ammar ahmad: "What a match this has been! Goosebumps every ball. Wahab you beauty! But Quetta still have high hitters in their dugout!"
good length on off stump, bunted over Wahab to long on once again. Flat-bats it but not off the bat's middle
Hasan walks in to bat. His nose was bleeding just an hour ago. Full marks for the commitment for sure
holes out to long on! Taken by Jordan, the sub. Full and wide outside off, and Perera drags his slog to the leg side. Straight to long on, and Jordan has to bend slightly down to complete the catch. Peshawar firmly on top now
Quetta need 26 off 10
good length on leg stump, flat-batted over the bowler's head to long on. Perera's back on strike
full on off stump, squeezed to deep backward point but for only a single! Anwar's back on strike. Peshawar won't mind
Quetta need 28 off 12 and here's Wahab Riaz to bowl out
Krish: "Quetta should not lose hope. They still have an over from Liam Dawson. A left arm bowler against Perera is always fun. Lets hope the big slog clears the mid-wicket boundary multiple times to reach them to qualifier."
sjaka: "Tornado watch issued both here in Florida and Lahore (for different reasons) !!!"
Yousuf: "What about a super over?" -- stop giving us ideas, Yousuf
another dot! What an over. Good length outside off, and tries another leg-side heave. Can't make the connect and Hasan finishes his spell in a terrific manner!
short on off stump, tries to pull this into the stands, but can only swivel. Can't connect as the ball goes over his bat. Only two off the over. How can Hasan Ali finish?
Irfan siddiqui: "@shabaib soumya sarkar?? :)"
back of a length outside off, muscles this pull down the ground. Goes to wide long on, and the throw from there is sent in in a flash! No chance of a second
Quetta need 29 off 15
full on off stump, but another slower ball! Perera tries to drive this inside out, but once again through his shot too early. Takes the bat's toe end and goes to Hasan
good length outside off, but it's the cutter on this occasion. Perera tries to slog this over the leg side, but through the shot too early. Misses it completely
good length outside off, pokes at it and runs this down to third man
Hasan Ali to bowl out
Shabaib Abdulla: "One over by hassan ali and one by wahab and who will bowl the third one??" -- Dawson maybe? That's the conventional option for certain. Don't see anyone else managing to. Especially not Sammy with that leg
full and straight this time. Muscled down the ground to long off for a walking single. Anwar keeps strike
low full toss on middle stump once again. Misses the yorker once more, but Thisara can't punish it. Mistimes his slog to deep midwicket once again
