Michael Dighton's first Pura Cup century in nearly three years put Tasmania on top before Queensland fought back with late wickets at Hobart. Dighton, who hammered a Twenty20 hundred earlier this month, made 126 and at the close the home side had reached 7 for 311.
Dighton's 126-run second-wicket stand with Michael Di Venuto (56) set up Tasmania's strong performance after they were sent in but the rest of the batsmen failed to convert starts and allowed the Bulls back into the game. Andy Bichel, Ashley Noffke and James Hopes snared two victims each while Daniel Doran removed the dangerous George Bailey for 42.
Dane Anderson, making his Pura Cup debut, was on 14 at stumps, with Brendan Drew on 11. Michael Kasprowicz, who was to return to first-class cricket after back and groin injuries, missed the game after flying home to Brisbane for the birth of his second child. His absence allowed Nathan Rimmington to play his third Pura Cup match.
