Round 3, Day 1 blog - Panchal, Ghadigaonkar slam tons; Pithiya, Nabi, Yudhvir return five-fors
By S SudarshananHighlights from the day
- TN vs Chhattisgarh: Aayush Pandey was involved in a 124-run opening stand with Rishabh Tiwari that almost saw a wicketless opening session. After lunch too, Pandey continued in fine vein before he was the second - and final wicket - to fall on the day. TN pressed as many as seven bowlers into service with only Mohammed Mohammed and Ajit Ram picking up a wicket each. As per eyewitnesses at the venue, it was an easy surface to bat on but Tamul Nadu couldn't hold on to their catches
- Delhi vs Assam: It was a memorable day for Sumit Ghadigaonkar, who churned his maiden Ranji Trophy hundred in Delhi. Assam were 4 for 59 when he joined forces with Sibsankar Roy. They paced it well to add 164 together before Roy fell for a fifty. Harshit Rana, called up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, started in the perfect manner, picking up three of the first four wickets to fall. Ghadigaonkar got to his ton by guiding a Rana delivery to deep third. Rana, though, struck once more to finish with four wickets on the day with North Zone national selector Ajay Ratra watching
- Priyank Panchal, who not so long ago was in the selectors' radar as a Test opener, slammed a century and added 156 runs with Aarya Desai for the opening wicket for Gujarat against Rajasthan. But after he fell, Gujarat lost 4 wickets for just 12 runs to end the day on a slightly even keel
- Yash Rathod led Vidarbha's dominance in Dehradun with 135. He was involved in a 117-run stand for the fourth wicket with Danish Malewar. On the other hand, Suryansh Shedge missed his century by a whisker in Mumbai's match against Tripura in Agartala. It was a breezy innings that ensured Mumbai end the day on top after being 4 for 87 at one point
- Sixties from Shaik Rasheed, Hanuma Vihari and KS Bharat helped Andhra end their first day on a high against Himachal Pradesh. While Rasheed and Vihari were steady, Bharat blazed away to a 65 off just 39 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes - two apiece off Rishi Dhawan.
- Legspinner Shreyas Gopal and offspinner Mohsin Khan shared seven wickets as Karnataka bowled out Bihar cheaply. A combination of rain and bad light, though, saw less than 59 overs being bowled on the day. In Srinagar, Auqib Nabi and Yudhvir Singh picked up five wickets each to bowl Services out for 71. By stumps, they had a lead of 112 but had lost seven wickets
- There was no action in Kolkata where Bengal were to take on Kerala. Wet outfield prevented any play despite there being no rain. Cyclone Dana had its effect in Jamshedpur as well, with play started well after scheduled tea. Robin Minz made his first class debut there but only 14 balls could be bowled

Tea time summary
- Suryansh Hedge has hit an attacking fifty to bring Mumbai back into the contest against Tripura. They were tottering at 87 for 4 after Ajinkya Rahane fell. Hedge is involved in an unconquered 70-run stand with Siddhesh Lad
- Sweet sixties for all of Hanuma Vihari, Shaik Rasheed and KS Bharat as Himachal Pradesh claw their way back against Andhra. Bharat played an enterprising knock of 65 off just 39, being particularly severe on Rishi Dhawan. He fell just before tea
- No play yet in Bengal-Kerala game and Jharkhand-Chandigarh match
- Punjab collapse against Uttar Pradesh, losing 3 for 6 after being comfortably placed at 126 for 3. Pukhraj Mann was set on 61 when he attempted an ungainly reverse sweep to be trapped lbw
