Matthew Wade's first Sheffield Shield century hurt his former team as Victoria continued to control the match at Bellerive Oval. Tasmania's worries increased as the day went on - their final rivals Queensland moved into a strong position at the Gabba - and they finished at 2 for 82 at stumps, a massive 453 behind.
Wade, 21, grew up in Tasmania and made his limited-overs debut for them before crossing Bass Strait in 2007 to avoid the cluttered wicketkeeping queue. In Victoria he has swapped duties with Adam Crosthwaite and his form comes at a good time as his side prepares to host the final from March 13.
Starting the second day on 11 with Victoria at 5 for 366, Wade took them to a commanding total of 535. His neat 100 came with 12 boundaries and he was dismissed from his 173rd ball when sweeping Jason Krejza.
Support came from the No. 10 Darren Pattinson's 39 on another tough day for the bowlers. Krejza's return of 3 for 107 was the best while Brett Geeves and Chris Duval also raised three figures in picking up two wickets.
Tasmania's reply was cautious as they scored at less than two an over and lost David Dawson (14) and Alex Doolan (4), who gave the debutant Steve Gilmour a wicket in his opening over. Jonathan Wells was unbeaten on 35 from 133 deliveries while George Bailey was 18.
