Damien Wright backed up his four wickets on the opening day with a vital half-century that steered Victoria to first-innings points over Western Australia. The hosts were struggling at 8 for 193 in reply to the Warriors' 211, but Wright combined with Clint McKay in a 100-run stand that pushed them to an advantage of 85 and moved them further ahead at the top of the table.
When the Bushrangers dropped to 4 for 59 their prospects of passing Western Australia were slim, but Andrew McDonald and Cameron White stabilised the situation. However, more trouble came when McDonald fell for 60 shortly after White departed for 51, reducing them to 6 for 176. Two more wickets went before Wright and McKay turned up with their capes.
They started cautiously but became more aggressive once the target was passed. Wright finished with 60 from 75 balls while McKay hit two sixes in his 45. David Bandy and Brett Dorey both grabbed three wickets, but the visitors were left to lament a missed opportunity. Western Australia lost Shaun Marsh in the third over of their second innings and finished the day at 1 for 42.
