The opener Daniel Harris put South Australia on track for a commanding total after his 124 set the platform for their 5 for 325. Western Australia, who are fourth, will probably need a victory to stay in contention for the final, but they have plenty of work to do after the Redbacks took an 82-run lead.
South Australia must win both of the last two games to have any chance of progressing further and they stayed in the race with a fine batting display. Harris, who took his season tally to 709 runs, started cautiously before increasing his range and had a collection of 22 fours and two sixes during his 211-ball innings.
He departed with a nick behind off Steve Magoffin, and received assistance from 48 to James Smith and 48 for Michael Klinger. The Warriors were not helped from some dropped chances, with Klinger spilled on 2 by Ben Edmondson and Smith missed by Luke Pomersbach on 47. Klinger made them pay, but Smith had gained one more single when he hit Brett Dorey to short cover.
Both Callum Ferguson (3) and Mark Cosgrove (19) failed, but by the time Cosgrove became Dorey's second wicket the Redbacks already owned first-innings points. Aaron O'Brien's 44 and Graham Manou's 36 extended the advantage further by stumps.
