Cameron takes 11 as Blues demolish Queensland

Mark Cameron took 11 wickets and Scott Coyte claimed a hat-trick as New South Wales inflicted an embarrassing defeat on the hosts Queensland inside two days at the Gabba. On a remarkable second day, the Bulls lost 18 wickets for 131 runs to hand victory to the Blues, whose stand-in captain Nathan Hauritz bowled only two overs for the match.

Queensland began the morning at 2 for 40, still hoping for first-innings points after New South Wales posted 262 on the opening day. But the tone was set in the first over, when Cameron snared two wickets with the first two deliveries, and he finished with a career-best 6 for 22 when the Bulls were knocked over for 75.

It was a terrific comeback from Cameron, 29, who had not played a first-class match since February 2009, having missed all of 2009-10 due to stress fractures in his back. Only three Queensland batsmen reached double figures and the humiliation continued when sundries was the top scorer in the innings, with 13 through leg-byes and no-balls.

Coyte finished off the final two batsmen with consecutive deliveries and then celebrated his hat-trick by claiming Lee Carseldine with his first ball after Queensland followed on. Carseldine slashed hard outside off stump and was taken at third slip by Peter Forrest to hand Coyte, who entered the game with only one first-class victim, a place in the record-books.

There was nothing Queensland could do to halt the wickets, as Cameron raced through the middle order to collect 5 for 30. He finished up with match figures of 11 for 52, while Trent Copeland also enjoyed the cloudy conditions to pick up 4 for 42 in the second innings as the Bulls were skittled for 96 before tea.

The result left Hauritz thrilled with his team's performance, but two overs with the red ball was hardly the warm-up he needed ahead of the first Ashes Test. However, the two-day finish could mean he is rushed in to Australia's ODI team to take on Sri Lanka in Melbourne on Wednesday, after he was initially to be left out due to his first-class commitments.
