Scorecard
Test spinner Nathan Lyon picked up two wickets as New South Wales retained control on the second day against Queensland at Allan Border Field, despite a half-century from Usman Khawaja. At stumps, the Bulls were 9 for 216 with Ben Cutting on 10 and Alister McDermott on 1, still trailing the Blues by 170 runs after New South Wales were bowled out earlier in the day for 386.
Lyon was not used until late in the Queensland innings as the seamers did the job for the Blues, especially former Test bowler Trent Copeland, who removed all of Queensland's top four batsmen and finished the day with 5 for 49. Copeland had opener Joe Burns caught behind for 14 and before Khawaja and Greg Moller put on 91 for the second wicket, a stand that ended when Khawaja was lbw for 58.
Copeland also got rid of Moller for 43 and Chris Lynn for 15, as well was the Queensland captain James Hopes caught behind for 40. The New South Wales captain Brad Haddin did not call on his Test team-mate Lyon until the 50th over of the innings and when he did come on, he soon accounted for Chris Hartley, taken at slip for 35, and Cameron Boyce, caught at short leg for a duck.
New South Wales had resumed on the second morning on 8 for 368 and they added 18 for the loss of their final two wickets. The five Queensland bowlers used, Cutting, McDermott, Hopes, Boyce and Michael Neser, each picked up two wickets.
