Ben Dunk scored his third century of the Sheffield Shield season and George Bailey went to stumps within reach of his second as Tasmania fought an uphill battle on the second day against South Australia in Hobart. The Tigers were 4 for 240 at stumps after the Redbacks had earlier declared at 7 for 600, with Callum Ferguson and Jake Lehmann both having made double-hundreds.
South Australia resumed at 3 for 441 and the runs kept flowing as Lehmann turned his maiden first-class century into 205 before he was bowled by Sam Rainbird. Ferguson had on day one scored his 14th first-class hundred but, like Lehmann, this was his first double, and he was eventually out to the bowling of Andrew Fekete for 213.
Several members of Tasmania's top order struggled and they were in trouble at 3 for 73, but Dunk continued his remarkable run of form. At the start of this month, Dunk was yet to score a first-class century after five years in and out of Sheffield Shield teams; now he has made three in consecutive matches, although he was out from the last ball of the day for 115.
Bailey was on 93 at stumps and was eyeing off what could become his 16th first-class century and his second in three matches. He began the Shield season with 63 and 68 against Western Australia and followed up with an unbeaten 148 in Tasmania's next match, against Queensland in Hobart.
