that's it! All over! Comprehensive victory for South Africa. Rampaul tries to smack it down the ground, doesn't get much of it and Smith takes the catch. Gentle high-fives all round for the South African's. Gayle does not look overly amused, but shakes hands with all the opposition players.
West Indies vs South Africa, 1st ODI at North Sound, May 22 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
South Africa won by 66 runs (D/L method)
There were glimpses when the West Indies were in that chase, Gayle was fortunate but got off to a good start, and later Pollard muscled some hope, but really, West Indies were not good enough again. The talent is there, the execution is not.
Gayle predictably is very disappointed but defends the team selection, arguing that it's up to the top five to set the game up, not get more batsmen to shorten the tail.
Smith is more chirpy and says that South Africa will experiment with their side as the look to find the formula that suits them.
Hashim Amla is named man of the match, as well he should be after his superb century.
Liam is finetuning his bulletin so do check that out. I hope you've enjoyed today, the next game is on Monday so please do join us then.
nicely turned off his legs into the midwicket region for a single
fuller and defended into the off side
gets some bat on it here, swishing it to point for a single
Miller attempts to smash it to cow corner, but cannot time it at all and it trickles down the ground
ooh, would have been gone here had McLaren collected the throw from point as Rampaul pushed it and ran
banged in short, very short, Rampaul has to jump and throw his arms at it, but can't connect
good strike from Miller, down on one knee and smacking it over midwicket for a boundary, one final cheer for the lively crowd
this time it's driven into the cover region for a single
forward and defending once more
Rampaul, who bowled so well today, defends his first ball carefully
gone this time, in bizarre fashion, it pitched in line, Taylor left it, and ushered it on to his pad, and it's plumb
good ball from Botha, who is only one 'm' away from Botham, I may add, on a good length and line and defended
driven uppishly down the ground for a couple
slower ball, swish and a miss
left alone outside off
this is tough for the lower order, not much they can do, Sammy tries to smack it over midwicket, can't time it, gets a top edge down to Kallis on the boundary
oh dear, back of a length pushed to point, single run, but if Duminy's throw had hit it would have been gone
good length and line, Sammy defends into the off side
short again, slower this time, and it's Miller who is too quick on this one
