thumped over mid on for four. Shortish outside off, and Musekiwa stayed in his crease to bash it
Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I at Harare, ZIM vs SL, Sep 06 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's all from us folks. We'll have the report for you in a bit. Madushka Balasuriya will have tomorrow's decider for you. Till then, take it easy.
Sikandar Raza is player of the match: The good thing about playing good cricket is that cricket rewards you back. We have been playing good cricket. We were a bit upset with the losses because we got close in the previous three games. But we weren't panicking. Hopefully this win will give us belief. The good thing is this environment is that we believe in the players' abilities. Anyone can have a bad day [as Blessing did in the previous game] but he came back today. We've got to be even better tomorrow. We deserve to win a series because we've been playing quality cricket.
Charith Asalanka: "We lost too many wickets in the powerplay. That's not the start we wanted. When I went to bat I thought it was a 130-140 pitch. In this format 80 is not enough."
Zimbabwe's batting was nothing to write home about, especially as Chameera went on the hunt. But they did enough. Sri Lanka never quite got to the stage where they were favourites to defend their exceedingly low score.
Dr Brix is getting emotional, and fair enough: "This win is a triumph of grit and patienceproof that 'slow and steady wins the race.' For Zimbabwe and its people, it's a moment of pride and joy, showing that 'every cloud has a silver lining."
This is Zimbabwe's first win over a full member side this year. Sri Lanka fielded and inexperienced top order, and ended up suffering one of their worst T20I collapses ever to register their second-lowest total ever. Sikandar Raza was the best of Zimabbwe's bowlers, but Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani were also excellent, with Ngarava and Sean Williams also playing their part.
full delivery on the stumps, driven to long on. End of another good over from Chameera - his last.
DanielAlexander: "Sri Lanka will be pleased with their bowling going into the Asia Cup, especially with Wanindu returning. However, the batting is a concern, only the openers are scoring."
short one outside off again, Musekiwa has no interest in playing that.
short one, just outside off, doesn't get especially high but Musekiwa ducks under it
yorker, on the stumps, but nicely clipped off the inside half of the bat and sent down to deep fine
fullish ball, speared in at off stump, defended with the full face
length outside off, steered wide of deep third and they get a couple
slower through the air, gives this a rip, pitches on middle and turns in sharply
tossed up outside off, drilled to long off
floated up outside off, driven hard between the legs of short cover (Asalanka) for a couple
slider, shortish, tight on off stump. Tries to squirt it behind square but can't beat the field
floated up, pitching outisde off, turning in, dragged with the sweep through square leg
Around the wicket
tossed up on the stumps, clipped straight to square leg
Simba T: "Game management is what Zimbabwe need right now. Bay sensibly and cross the line, we've got ten overs to score 28 runs. Come on Chevrons do it for us " And yet there is nothing in the pitch that warrants this. A little slow, maybe. But no extravagant turn or massively inconsident bounce.
flatter just outisde off, poked to short cover
edged past the slip. This is flat, just wide of off, Musekiwa pushed at it and it flies past the diving slip, and short third is nowhere close to it. Zim get four runs closer
tossed up on the stumps, driven to long on past the bowler, who probably should have stopped it
flatter one outside off to Musekiwa first ball. Goes back and punches it to short cover, who gets a hand to hit but can't stop the single
plumb. That is a great faster delivery from Theekshana, who pitches it on off, straightens it (carrom ball I think) and Munyonga plays down the wrong line. That would have crashed into middle and off. The umpire's finger is up almost before the bowler has turned around to appeal
flatter one on the stumps, turned around the corner for a single
Simba T: "Game management is what Zimbabwe need right now. Bay sensibly and cross the line. Come on Chevrons do it for us "
