wide slower ball outside off... Beaumont can't cling on over her right shoulder running back from mid-off!
Fire vs Rockets, 20th Match at Cardiff, Women's Hundred, Aug 14 2023 - Match Result
Thanks everyone for your company this afternoon. We've a men's game still to come, with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf playing their final games of the tournament... Alan Gardner is behind the keys for that one. From Matt and Thilak, that's all folks!
Beaumont is the Match Hero (shock!): "I thought it was a pretty good wicket!" she says. "The bowlers did really well. We learned the other day that there's quite a strong breeze towards the Taff. Alana King has got me in her pocket, so I thought I would try not to get out to her. I wasn't trying to be too aggressive against her. Today, I thought I'd lower the risk against her and attack at the other end. [Bryce] She's been crucial for us. She times the ball beautifully and I love batting with her. She has been the unsung hero. We had to bowl well because they came hard. For Freya Davies, to go at less than a run a ball, absolutely outstanding."
5.39pm: Welsh Fire go top! They were wooden spoon winners in the first two seasons but have built an excellent squad with a committed captain who has a point to prove, and she has proved it in style this afternoon with the highest score in the history of the Hundred. Beaumont leads her team off and takes the applause, as Hartley jokes that she might have an outside shot at the Match Hero award... A convincing win in the end, with Rockets fading after a bright start and Harmanpreet Kaur playing a bizarrely restrained innings towards the back end.
slower ball, Harmanpreet swings and misses... fumble from Bryce behind the stumps
banged in short, 74mph, swatted away off the ribcage
jumps across her stumps, inside-edges a 73mph length ball into her pad and it skews down to fine leg
hard length from around the wicket, pulled hard out to deep square
Ismail to finish things off. Rockets looked on course for the first 40 balls or so, but are heading for a heavy defeat.
low full toss outside off stump, lap-swept straight to short fine leg
A bird has flown onto a good length... Hartley runs in from short fine leg and gets rid of it.
cross-batted, just out of reach as Griffiths nearly takes a blinder off her own bowling! Mopped up at long-on. Griffiths beaten for pace in her follow-through... just got a fingertip to it
Akram: "Kair is surely out of touch in this Hundred so far "
full toss, hacked down to long-on on the bounce
down on one knee, swings the slower ball out to wide long-on
yorker, jams down to keep it out
Brilliant figures for Davies in the context of this defence, finishing with 2 for 19 from her 20 balls. Harmanpreet Kaur just hasn't got going at all.
length ball outside off, cut to mid-off
wide outside off, slapped hard through extra cover and Dunkley gets around from long-off to mop up
Dattani walks out at No. 7.
in the slot, clears the front leg and holes out to long-on! Ismail hardly has to move. Swung hard but not enough elevation or power
slower ball, swept hard out to deep backward square... superb from Griffiths on the boundary rope! Makes good ground, then a sprawling dive to cut it off
pace on, into the pitch, dragged down to long-on
yorker, thumped down the ground but straight into the stumps at the non-striker's end!
full, whipped out to deep midwicket for a couple
4,006 in at Sophia Gardens for this
back of a length again, and Harmanpreet can't drag it away on the pull. Wilson races down looking for an opportunistic single, but is sent back... Ismail's throw is wide!
short ball, Harmanpreet stands tall looking to pull but is struck on the back hip by a 74mph delivery
pushed to short cover for a quick single
