Flings it on a shorter length and takes the pace off, it jags in at middle and leg, never really arrives at her and she is early through the flick towards short fine
Phoenix vs Originals, 32nd Match at Birmingham, Women's Hundred, Aug 15 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's all from this rain-marred game. Join us for the Men's Hundred game scheduled to start in about an hour (weather permitting). Until then, it's goodbye and goodnight from Rvel
5:07pm: I'm afraid, I've some disappointing news: the match has been abandoned. It just continues to pour down with remote prospect of sneaking in even a 25-ball game and so sadly, that's the end of the final group stage game and the end of Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals campaign in this year's Hundred. Both teams will split points. There are puddles forming on the ground and we still have one game left at this venue today. The ground staff will need a major mop-up operation once the rain stops to get the outfield ready in time. Let's hope we get more cricket
4:30pm: Latest start time for 25 ball match will be 17:38. Spectators haven't left and have moved up the aisles to find some shade. Let's grab some coffee and snacks while we wait for better news
4:18pm: Ellyse Perry is chatting with Alice Monaghan on the sidelines and the players look keen to get back on the field. It's tipping down and conditions remain pretty much the same. We could be in for a long delay as the pictures look gloomy
4:05pm: We have 30 minutes before we start losing overs. The square is also getting covered now and it's steadily trickling down. The ground staff is very busy
3:48pm: Alright, so the umpires have had enough; the bails have been removed, the stumps uprooted, and the hover cover is coming out. The rain has gotten slightly heavier and I think it's a fair call because the conditions were becoming tougher for the bowlers, while the batters were having fun and going about it swimmingly. Let's hope it's just a passing shower. Only the pitch has been covered, not the square. There's a strong breeze that should help carry the moisture away
Fraction short and zinging in, goes past the leg-stump, wide signalled, sharp take from the keeper while standing up
Hard length on middle, clears front leg, swivels and walloped in the air and it lands safely at deep midwicket region
Arrows it in from over the wicket, shorter on middle, nudged to midwicket, fielders helping to keep the ball dry as the outfield gets wet
Continues to drizzle as she plays an under-controlled pull to deep midwicket
Short of a length with some room to free arms, beautifully lofted straight drive over mid-on head for a four, silkily done
Skips down and whacks it with gusto to deep square's left, free-hit, catch dropped in the deep
Perry in cruise control now. Intriguing over, very expensive one for Originals. Third full-toss, high one on middle, she is not going to miss out on the gift, high-elbowed pull past deep backward square for another four, puts a full stop to the set with another boundary and we'll have a delay as rain gets heavier and steadier This was above waist-height so there'll be an extra delivery
Fraction short and nibbles in from outside off, calmly sliced towards point
Follows it up with another full-toss wide of off, she latches onto it and gorgeously drove it with superb hand-eye coordination to cover boundary, Perry on fire
High full-bunger on off, her eyes lit up, and she isn't gobsmacked by the full-toss, slugged with panache over deep midwicket for a maximum!
Pitched short and it swerves back at off, pulled to mid-on off the backfoot
Over the wicket, slung down full and outside off, jockeys across off and heaves it into the leg side, fielder at deep midwicket collects on one bounce
Pace-off, short and plenty of width to work with, makes room and biffs it out past cover for a four; waited a touch and then placed it into the gap with precision, ending the over on a high
Good length, some lateral movement towards middle and leg, shimmies down leg and belts it to deep cover-point
Good length with width, swatted across the line to midwicket and hares for a couple
Length ball angled into the pads, she backs away and works it calmly to midwicket
Over the wicket, fires it full on middle, pings an on-drive to long-on
On a length and nips back in at middle and leg, slugged out with not the best of timings to wide of mid-on and the fielder couldn't intercept it neatly in the first attempt
Slams a yorker on leg, shovelled away to midwicket off the toe-end
