Edged away for victory! Length, bit of width, scythed over where first slip might have been. England have won by 4 wickets chasing 197 with nine balls to spare. Excellent contributions throughout with the bat, particularly given Harry Brook fancied a chase at the toss. Victory also confirms the series for England as they take a 2-0 lead in the T20Is with the final game to come at the Utilita Bowl on Tuesday.
England vs West Indies, 2nd T20I at Bristol, ENG vs WI, Jun 08 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
6:22pm Right that's all from us here. Join us on Tuesday for the series finale in Southampton. Have a great evening!
6:20pm "I personally felt we were a few runs short," said West Indies skipper Shai Hope. "The dimensions and the pitch being a pretty decent one… I don't feel like we capitalised in the middle overs against the spin."
England captain Harry Brook reckons they were a lot more than a few short: "Small boundaries here, we always thought they were under-par by about 30 runs.
"It's a great start in the T20s for the boys. We had a lot of fun out there. They had a very good finish, but we stuck to our plans very well in the middle period. We had a discussion before we went out to bat that it was only a matter of a couple of big overs."
6:16pm Player of the match is Luke Wood with figures for 2 for 25 on his return to the England team for the first time in close to two years.
"I've not been in the team for a while now - it's nice to come back in and make an impact. We discussed as a bowling unit and with Brooky on the field about what was effective; it was pretty clear that slower balls and mixing it up to these guys was the right way to go. It paid off today.
"It's nice to win any series, especially off the back of the ODIs. Hopefully in a couple of days time we can make it 3-0."
Leaves this alone, as this straighter short delivery leaps once more
Short, targeting Carse who is moving to the leg side and swiping without joy. Almost gets taken out!
2 needed from 12... Holder with the penultimate over
Phil: "Shepherd didn't need to drop that did he? Didn't look as though he stepped over the boundary." Free Hit either way, so best to be safe I suppose
Outside off, Carse twitches at the delivery and gets a single down to deep third
Into the pitch, good length, Banton rocks back and opens the face into a guide down to third
By the way, this will finish as the highest aggregate score in a T20I without a batter on either side registering a fifty...
Full yorker, nailed through midwicket for four! Outstanding strike from Banton, classical
Wide on the crease, leg stump yorker, perfect really, but still a single taken as Carse gets the bat down in time, diverting it out to deep midwicket
Brydon Carse is the new batter, with 9 needed off 16
Bunted to extra cover! Gets the wider delivery about right, Jacks reaches for it and sends one flat to the fielder
Slammed out to deep midwicket... where Shepherd takes the catch, but then has to drop the ball on the right side of the boundary to save some runs. Excellent reach and take
Wide! Oh Alzarri... the free hit gets rolled over to the next delivery
... a Free Hit for Will Jacks
Waist high full toss, flies down the leg side! An awful, awful start and...
17 needed from 18... Josephs final over
Incredible from Banton... Full, right on the toes, and yet Banton somehow gets enough on a reverse to bisect short third and backward point. The right-hander even skipped back in his crease once he realised it might have been too full from his original starting position. Astonishing really
Chinna: "It's just mind boggling to see all top 7 in Englands batting order are proper openers as well!!!"
Off cutter again, almost flighted up to a full length, whipped to square leg for a single
Wide on the crease, full on off stump, just short of a yorker length, driven out to sub-fielder Hetmyer (on for Akeal Hosein) at mid off
Into the surface, sticks in the pitch, but Jacks again does well to not snatch at the delivery, manufacturing a single through midwicket
Short, Jacks decides not to pull, but too high from Holder anyway
Wide of the crease, pace off - cutter - well-watched by Jacks, driving out to deep cover where Johnson (still a crowd favourite) does the fielding
Onto the pads, picked off to Rutherford at deep midwicket
Will Jacks is the new batter, though he's off strike for now against Holder
He's gone! Third's up in the circle, and Bethell, smartly, attempts to ramp. Unfortunately, the ball is too full from Joseph, so the meeting with the bat is on the full straight to Chase around the corner. Still job done (ish)! A very useful cameo
Carved over cover! Too short from Joseph, though he's not bowled that poorly and he's been carted into the stands for six! Good catch by yer man in the crowd... and England's ask is close to a run a ball...
