Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead but both teams continued to breathe life into the ODI format and entertained a vociferous crowd in Chelmsford. The game was curtailed and it went overtime but delivered top-quality cricket that signal exciting times ahead. We'll do this all over again in a couple of days, see you then. Goodbye for now from me, Ekanth, my co-commentator, S Sudarshanan, and our scorers, Binoy George and Chandan Duorah.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, POTM: I feel very happy, it was nice. I think Hridoy batted well. His intent helped me. It's pretty cold but we can't control conditions. We just focus on our game. We didn't feel we were outside Bangladesh, thanks to the crowd. Hopefully they can come in the next match as well. He later thanks the crowd for coming in Bangla, his native tongue.

Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh Captain: The support is unbelievable when we played in England. I remember our crowd outnumbered England in 2017, it's special. Due to the ground dimensions and the wicket, we thought it was chaseable. It's not a ground where you need to look for a boundary all the time, they will come. Kudos to Shanto. If Towhid keeps performing the way he does, he will be gold.

Andy Balbirnie, Ireland Captain: Hard one to pinpoint, will sit down tomorrow and look at it. It's a tough ground to defend, credit to them for the chase. We can take a lot of confidence. When you have a good score, you're in the game. Can't fault batters. Shoutout to Tector. I wouldn't look too much into him making tons in losing causes. He'll score more in wins. Bangladesh have a great team. We were good but not enough. We entertained the crowd, hope to do it on Sunday.

nzbsz: "10 points and Bangladesh moved to the third position in the point table. Another 10 won't change it much but the morale will be high. "

8:50pm And so, a long, never-ending match has finished in a thriller! And it was down to the experienced Mushfiqur to get them over the line. It never seemed as if his heroics would be needed when Shanto was going out all guns blazing along with Hridoy. The pair never let the required run rate go out of hand and kept Bangladesh in the game. But once they both fell - with Shanto having scored a fantastic, maiden ODI ton - the game was open. Ireland squeezed in some economical overs and took it to the last over. Adair almost did it by dismissing Mushfiqur, only for it to be a waist-high no-ball. And rest, as they say, is history. Bangladesh are 1-0 up with a game to go. Presentations soon.

Shovik: "I'm loving Mushfiqur in this finisher's role. A few heartbreaks in the past have moulded him into a commendable finisher, really clinical. "

Adair to Mushfiqur, FOUR runs

And Mushfiqur does it for Bangladesh! Makes that life count. Glimmer of hope is enough for the veteran. Gets across off and ramps the length ball well over the wicketkeeper's head. Joy in the Bangladesh camp, not so in the Irish camp.

Free hit. And Mushfiqur is on strike, too. Four balls, four runs needed. The field won't change since it is the same batter on strike.

Adair to Mushfiqur, (no ball)

It is all happening! Is it a no-ball? A high full toss, Mushfiqur pulls it straight down deep backward square leg fielder's throat. The umpires converge and take it upstairs. The batter is crouching when he makes contact but is it high enough? The umpire thinks it is above waist high and has ruled it no-ball.

Mushfiqur is caught at deep backward square leg, but is it a high full toss?

Adair to Mushfiqur, no run

Perfect yorker on middle and off, he can only dig it out towards the non-striker. Two dots, excellent.

Now long-off in place, third comes in.

44.1
Adair to Mushfiqur, no run

Full and outside off, drilled to mid-off!

Five needed off six. More importantly for Bangladesh, Mushfiqur is on strike. Adair has the ball in hand. Third in, mid-on out, mid-off in. Around the stumps

Little to Shoriful Islam, 1 bye

Full and outside off, he misses the ball. Mushfiqur runs for the by and Tucker, perhaps didn't expect that, and throws it loopily to the bowler.

Boby: "Whenever I am seeing "Little to Mushfiqur", my brain automatically reading it "Little Mushfiqur". What a Little Master Bangladesh have produced! "

Little to Shoriful Islam, no run

Slower one on a length, he goes for the heave but misses it.

Mid-on goes back, deep midwicket comes in.

Little to Shoriful Islam, FOUR runs

Tonks it straight back where it came from. Shoriful knows what's coming - full and straight ball. Little misses his yorker and bowls a full one on off and middle. Shoriful clears his right leg and smacks it back over the bowler.

Shoriful Islam is the new batter in. 11 needed off 10

Little to Taijul, OUT

Pinned in front! Little is on the money and bowls it full and straight in line of the stumps. Taijul looks to flick it away but is beaten for pace. The umpire takes no time in raising his finger. Taijul thought about the review but didn't get support from Mushfiqur.

Bowls it on a back of a length, takes pace off. Mushy goes back and steers it to deep third.

A run-a-ball 12 needed. Mushfiqur on strike. Little to bowl the penultimate over of this lonnnggg game. Left-arm round.

Adair to Taijul, 2 runs

Well done from Hume at deep third ropes. Gets quickly around to keep it down to two. The umpire wants to have another look. Taijul managed to glide the length ball angling away with its line. All's well.

Dockrell to Mushfiqur, 1 run

Flatter and angling into leg, he goes back and cuts it to backward point, where Hume fails to stop that.

A chat between Dockrell and Balbirnie now.

A concussion check now. Looks to be alright.

Dockrell to Taijul, 1 run

Dropped! And hopefully Stirling is alright. It bounced off a length, Taijul went back to cut but got a top edge onto the right cheek of Stirling at slip. Didn't have enough time to react and it goes down.
