full just outside off and Bresnan puts a lovely swing on it and puts it over long-off, great finish but all too little too late
South Africa vs England, 26th Match, Group 1 at Chattogram, Mar 29 2014 - Ball by Ball Commentary
So that's all for England but they have one more game to play on Monday, against Netherlands, that's now a dead-rubber. South Africa have qualified and now have a nice rest to next Thursday or Friday for their semi-final. Tomorrow sees Pakistan play Bangladesh and Australia play India, two exciting games so tune in then, but from me, Alex Winter, it's goodbye for now...
The losing captain is Stuart Broad: "Yer we've lost by three, it's a fantastic game, credit to the players for that, we're heartbroken to come out on the wrong end but AB has taken the game away for us. It didn't go to plan in the last three overs but apart from that it was a good game for us. We've had some guys get going this innings but no outstanding score which you need chasing such a big total."
AB de Villiers is Man of the Match: "It was a great game the boys did extremely well. It's very tough conditions to field in. I knew from the start we had to be unpredictable and mix things up. But once again the execution of the bowlers was amazing. I've lost a few as captain in T20s and it was important for me to get the guys through and get Faf back pumped for the semi-finals."
A shed load of runs in this game but three more of them scored by South Africa who take the victory and qualify for the semi-finals they haven't played too well so far in this tournament but they've got the job done on three occasions, for that they can take great credit. But England are eliminated and have plenty to look back on and rue from what was, in the end, an excellent effort with the bat but they had too much to do after a terrible end to their innings with the ball. Their bowlers have lost them this game. AB de Villiers took off for South Africa at just the right time and that proved the difference in the end.
full just outside off, Bresnan swings it hard and gets a thick inside edge past the leg stump to the long leg fence
back and Bresnan pulls it into the stands, lovely strike and its sails over the rope
step to leg and swings a length ball on the bounce to long-on
full outside off, swung at and gets an edge down to third man
length and Bopara lifts it high, high into the night sky, but not long enough, Miller with the catch that's a solid take and England surely now are dead. Again, like Jordan, it was a very hittable ball but Bopara simply mistimed it
So 22 from the final set and Steyn to bowl it. Bopara or bust here for England...
length on the stumps and only mistimed down to long-on
slides down leg, that is a bonus for England
misses the yorker and Bopara launches it for six over the long-off fence, great shot
short ball, slower ball outside off and Bopara is totally foxed, flapping at it and missing
swung down the ground but this is struck properly and de Villiers running back takes an excellent catch. It was a ball to hit, on a length but Jordan didn't get hold of it enough and could only chip it to where de Villiers could field it
low full toss and Jordan swings it off side and evades extra cover, nice strike
excellent yorker, only dug out back to the bowler
Hendricks, this over has to go...
England just about still in it with those two fours...
four more, wide full toss and Bopara slaps it to the cover fence
finally a boundary, clean swing down the ground and nails it right back past the bowler
low full toss, Jordan can only find deep midwicket, simply not good enough for England
back of a length on the stumps, Jordan with a swing and a miss aiming leg side
just one again, swung into the off side but straight to deep cover
excellent yorker, edged through midwicket, singles, even twos are fine for South Africa
SA scored 55 from their final three overs, what can England do...
short and nailed into the leg side but only finds the fielder, not good enough
