WISDEN HONOR FOR Md. AZHARUDDIN, 22 Apr 91.
Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin has been named among Wsiden's
five cricketers of the year for 1990. The select five are chosen
from mostly among cricketers who play in England. The four others
picked were the West Indian opener, Desmond Haynes, the Lancashire and England batsman Mike Atherton, the Essex and Australian batsman Mark Waugh, and the Glamorgan captain Alan Butcher. "A new definition was given to Oriental artistry", Grame
Wright, editor of Wisden's cricket Almanack, told newsmen commenting on Azhar and further he said " Azhar is a stylist who
used the power of his wrists to create the mesmeric effect of the
stroke played late."
