Kings XI, having looked out of the game, had recovered and now needed 29 to win off 21 balls with three wickets in hand. Manan Vohra had single-handedly revived them and was on 83. He punched a back-of-a-length ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar to sweeper cover's left, and Shikhar Dhawan ran, took the catch and then hit the deck. His captain, David Warner, was celebrating, but when Dhawan got up, everyone realised he had dropped the ball when he tumbled.
When Vohra was on 45, Mohammad Nabi nearly pulled of a stunning catch to dismiss him. Vohra tried to ramp one over short third man, and Nabi lept and stuck his right hand out. He managed to get his fingers to the ball, but could only manage to parry it.
Nabi dropped a much easier chance earlier in Kings XI's chase of 160. Axar Patel pushed one lazily back to him, but Nabi missed the chance to dismiss Axar for a duck.
David Warner was looking to take Sunrisers' total past 150 in the final over of their innings and hit a low full toss in long-off's direction. The ball was above Eoin Morgan's head, but he should have caught it after getting both hands to it. It went straight through and over the rope for six.
Naman Ojha was still on 2 when he mistimed an attempted sweep and sent the ball looping towards deep square leg. Mohit Sharma had to run a fair bit to his right, but ended up over-running the ball and didn't even get his hands to the chance. The ball landed behind him as he lost his footing and fell over.
In an excellent over from Nathan Coulter-Nile, Morris misread a slower ball and lobbed one to cover, but Gambhir put down a sitter to give Morris his second life in the space of three balls.
A knuckle ball from Narine got the outside edge, but the keeper missed a regulation chance.
With Rising Pune defending an average total of 161, Shardul Thakur had Kohli, batting on 7, slashing at a short ball outside off and edging to slip, where Tiwary dropped a shoulder-high chance.
Thakur deceived Kohli with a slower one, and he checked his drive, but Thakur could not hold on to a tough return catch. He had to dive low and to his left.
Defending 176, Lions had a great chance to dismiss the in-form Nitish Rana early when, batting on 9, he skied one to midwicket. Jason Roy got under it, but couldn't hold on.
Defending 188, Daredevils had Kings XI in trouble at 80 for 5 and could have put the final nail in the coffin by dismissing David Miller, but his firm drive was put down at cover, where Zaheer dived low to his right and got both hands on the ball.
Kings XI had restricted Daredevils to 110 for 4 in 15 overs and could have had another when Anderson, batting on 2, punched one straight back, but Cariappa could not get down quick enough to take the sharp chance.
Defending 172, Knight Riders had a chance to take an early wicket, but Woakes put down a hard chance at cover point. Dhawan, batting on 5, had struck the ball cleanly, and Woakes dived to his right, but couldn't hang on to the catch.
Manish Pandey was batting on 8 and came down the track to spinner Bipul Sharma. He missed an attempted flick, getting a fine inside edge that was put down by the keeper, who also missed the stumping chance.
With Lions needing 21 to win off 18 balls, Rising Pune were offered a small glimmer of hope when Finch, batting on 14, flicked one in the air to deep backward square leg, but Tahir reacted late and dropped the chance.
Chahar slogged the final ball of Rising Pune's innings to deep midwicket, where Jadeja put down a sitter.
With Rising Pune 135 for 5, Tiwary, batting on 18, smashed one straight back. The speed of the ball proved too much for Jadeja.
With de Villiers still on 7, Mumbai Indians had a chance to get him out early, but Buttler, at long-on, couldn't judge the ball as it swirled in the air after de Villiers mistimed a slog-sweep.
Maxwell, still on 5, inside-edged a Chris Woakes delivery, and the ball flicked his pad on the way to the keeper, Uthappa, who dived to his left and put down a tough chance.
Manan Vohra had raced to 18 off 10 balls before he top-edged a hook to third man, where Narine dropped a straightforward chance.
Krunal put in a dive at mid-off to try to catch Dhawan, who was batting on 21. The ball slipped out of his hand, but seemed to stick in his elbow. He claimed the catch, but the umpires ruled against him.
With Daredevils cruising to a big win, Nair nearly took a blinder at slip with Dinda still on 0. But, after diving low to his left at slip and getting his fingers under the ball, he let it touch the turf momentarily.
With Kings XI reaching 107 for 2 in chase of 149, Royal Challengers were desperate for a wicket. On 13, Maxwell sliced one to point. Mandeep got his hands in front of his face but watched the ball burst through them.
Mumbai Indians needed 11 off the last over in a chase of 179, and Knight Riders had already committed a fielding error, a misfield from Suryakumar Yadav allowing a four. With 5 runs needed off 3 balls, Hardik Pandya top-edged a pull, and Rishi Dhawan, on the field as a substitute, ran in from deep square leg but slipped and then couldn't hold on to the catch while diving forward.
Krunal Pandya had already taken two wickets to reduce Knight Riders to 82 for 3 and should have had another when he beat Manish Pandey, batting on 14, in the flight and got him to nick one to the keeper, but the ball was travelling quickly and Parthiv's reactions were found wanting.
In the middle of one of the spells of the tournament, Rashid Khan got Suresh Raina to drive away from his body and edge to slip, where David Warner nearly pulled off a stunner diving to his right.
With Kings XI chasing 164, Wriddhiman Saha, on 5, tried to hit one over short cover, where Christian dived to his right and got a hand to it, but couldn't complete the catch.
Kings XI had a chance to take a second wicket in Rising Pune's Powerplay when Ajinkya Rahane, on 4, got a leading edge that looped towards cover. T Natarajan should have run in to take it from extra cover, but instead Manan Vohra ran backwards from short cover to try to take it and let it slip from his hands as he fell.
For the second time in two balls, Chris Lynn, who had smashed 79 off 37 balls, was dropped. Dwayne Smith dropped the ball when running in from deep square leg.
The ball before Smith's miss, Brendon McCullum parried a straight hit by Lynn over the long-off boundary.
Having just completed his fifty, Suresh Raina skied a slog sweep to deep midwicket, where Yusuf Pathan tried to take it with his fingers pointing upwards but dropped the regulation chance.
Raina should not have been allowed to even get to 50. He miscued a pull when on 12, and Kuldeep did the hard work in running backwards from mid-on and getting to the ball, but then spilled it.
Rising Pune had 14 runs to win off seven balls, and MS Dhoni hit a full toss straight to long-on. Inexplicably, Tim Southee dropped it, allowing Rising Pune to complete a single.
Steven Smith, batting on 36, was the key to Rising Pune's chase of 185, and offered a chance as he pulled in the air. Nitish Rana ran to his right from deep square leg but couldn't hold on to the catch.
With Mumbai Indians 138 for 6, Kieron Pollard edged a yorker, but Dhoni dropped the low chance.
Dinda's eventual figures of 4-0-57-0 would have looked a lot better had Rising Pune's fielders given him some support. In his second over, he got Parthiv Patel, batting on 13, to slash one straight to third man, but Rajat Bhatia misjudged the pace of the ball and let it hit his stomach.
Yuvraj had started to attack and was on 26 off 11 balls when he pulled one to deep square leg. Sreenath Aravind attempted to take the chest-high chance with a reverse cup but let it go straight through his palms.
