The president of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, is threatening to sue the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) if they don't hand over the money generated in ticket sales during last year's World Cup.
"They owe us a lot of money," Jagdeo said yesterday, "and if we are not paid, we will file a lawsuit against them."
Guyana hosted six matches of the Super Eights which is estimated to have earned them in excess of US$1m, which is small change in comparison to the US$50m Guyana spent on preparing for the event.
Much of this was spent on building the new Providence stadium, but the government were criticised for over-spending. Jagdeo is convinced that the redevelopment has been worthwhile, however, adding that Guyana is "better ready to host any major event now than we were years ago".
