Scorecard and ball-by-ball
Griqualand West won the first UCB Provincial Cup by beating Border by seven wickets and a day to spare in a fluctuating match at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
Having fallen behind on the first innings two individual performances saw Griquas run out easy winners as first Adriaan Swanepoel ripped the heart out of the Border batting by taking a career best 7 for 30 and then Adrian McLaren struck 114 not out as they chased down the target of 208.
Johan Botha had shown stiff resistance in the Border second innings by scoring 90 out of a total of 151. His stay at the wicket included a 54-run partnership with Murray Ranger who scored 20. For the rest there was no answer to Swanepoel who took the last seven wickets to fall.
This win will go a long way towards Griqualand West maybe acquiring franchise status for the 2006/07 season.
