Jason Gillespie and Stephen Waugh injury update

Jason Gillespie has sustained a fractured right tibia and Stephen Waugh a broken nose as a result of a collision during the First Test against Sri Lanka in Kandy today, Friday 10 September.

X-rays taken at a hospital near the ground at Kandy confirmed the extent of their injuries.

Both men will be flown from Kandy to Colombo to have their broken bones set, and then Gillespie will fly home as soon as it is practical for him to do so.

The Australian selectors will discuss the question of a replacement player and an announcement will be made in due course
