Ten players picked in the ESPNcricinfo staff all-time World Cup XI made it to our readers' XI. The only change: Lance Klusener from the staff XI is replaced by AB de Villiers in the readers' selection. The composite XI was compiled from over 1000 teams sent in by our readers on email.

With 1207 runs, de Villiers is the fifth-highest run scorer in the tournament's history. His batting average of 63.52 and strike rate of 117.29 are the best for players with over 750 runs in World Cup matches.
Sachin Tendulkar was the most popular pick among our readers, closely followed by Glenn McGrath and Wasim Akram. Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Viv Richards, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan also featured in more than 50% of the readers' XIs. MS Dhoni was the most popular pick from among players set to feature in the 2019 World Cup.
While Imran Khan is the captain of our staff XI, two-time World Cup-winning captain Ponting leads the readers' side. Gilchrist keeps the wicketkeeping gloves, ahead of Kumar Sangakkara. In case one of the five bowlers has an off day, Richards and Tendulkar can chip in with a few overs.
Other than Dhoni, among the next five most-picked players who didn't make it to the final XI were all allrounders: Kapil Dev, Jacques Kallis, Klusener, and Sanath Jayasuriya.
