KA Aashrith with a match analysis of 12 for 55 helped Tamil Nadu
demolish hosts Goa by an innings and 179 runs in their South Zone
Under-14 tournament match at DSY Grounds in Goa on Friday. Tamil Nadu
took home eight points.
Goa who were in dire straits overnight with 114 (63 overs) on board
and 7 of their batsmen back in the pavilion, prolonged the fight for a
further 25.2 overs. Sachin Naik (35 not out) with his overnight
partner Narayan Kamath (39) forged 63 runs for the eight wicket in
37.3 overs. Then it was only a matter of time before the innings
folded up in the 83rd over, Aashrith picking up the last two wickets.
Goa in their first innings were bundled out for just 43 runs. None of
the Goa batsmen reached double figures. Aashrith was the wrecker-inchief with 7 for 9 runs in his 14.2 overs.
Earlier on the first day, Tamil Nadu won the toss and elected to bat.
Tamil Nadu were chiefly helped by a fine 199-run fourth wicket stand
between P Johnson (112) and P Rahul (92) off 326 balls. Johnson who
was at the crease for 290 minutes faced 179 balls during which he
found the boundary ropes 12 times.
