The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) today confirmed it has asked the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit, headed by Sir Paul Condon, to examine claims involving Australian cricket, including allegations against Mark Waugh, made in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India report, released on 1 November.
Additionally, the ACB's Special Investigator, Greg Melick, has also been asked to look into the matter.
ACB Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said: "We have always said that if any fresh evidence or new allegations came to light we would investigate them.
"The allegations made in the CBI report are extremely serious and need to be investigated thoroughly to find out if there is any substance to them.
"The ICC and the ACB both have the processes in place to conduct those investigations, and as such we have written to both Sir Paul Condon and Greg Melick to ask them to examine the matter."
"Mark Waugh has assured us he will cooperate fully with the enquiries, which are obviously important steps towards ensuring that the game of cricket regains its credibility in the eyes of the world."
Speed, who obtained a copy of the report from the internet on Thursday morning (2 November), also confirmed that Mark Waugh would remain eligible for selection.
"Sir Paul has already said that all those named in the CBI report are presumed innocent until proven otherwise and we see no reason to take any different course at this stage," he said.
