Ali Bacher entertains the local audience

The Israel Cricket Association was honored to host South African legend Dr

The Israel Cricket Association was honored to host South African legend Dr. Ali Bacher, who spoke at a function in Ra'anana last night. Guests were treated to some of the personal stories that have highlighted his career, both as a player and in his capacity as a cricket administrator for over two decades. He spoke about the close relationship he has with Nelson Mandela, about the Hansie Cronje scandal, his experiences from being involved in the organization of the 2003 World Cup, and expressed his views on the current South African team. His talk was followed by a questions and answers session, which was then followed by a barbeque. Proceeds of the event will be used for the continued development of youth cricket in the South.
ICA Chairman Stanley Perlman opened the evening by highlighting some of the moments of Ali Bacher's career, and in particular the role he played in the transformation of South African society. He presented a photograph of the two which was taken at the opening of the Herzlia School sports field in Cape Town in the 1960's. Also present in the audience was Solly Katz, who played wicketkeeper in the same Transvaal team as Ali Bacher.
The ICA thanks all those who supported the evening, and in particular Mr. Steven Cohen who provided the meat for the barbeque.
