On the 29th December 1996 states from around Australia will commence the tussle for the mantle of National Champion as the 23rd
Foster`s LightIce Blind Cricket Championships commence in Sydney.
CUB, major supporters of cricket, have pledged support for this
tournament, which will be the biggest in the 46 years history of
the national blind cricket tournament.
Blind cricket is an adapted form of the one day game, played by
legally blind and vision impaired people around the country.
This years titles are seen as historic and vitally important as
an Australian Team will be picked to tour India in November 1998
to contest the first ever World Cup Of Blind Cricket.
"Many hours of planning, and a huge amount of community support
has been received to ensure this tournament goes off smoothly."
Matt Artis, President of the Host State, NSW said today.
Artis continued saying "Prior to the start of the tournament,
each team will be part of an official parade and demonstration to
be held at the SCG on the 28th of December. This will allow the
general public to show support for, and gain an insight into how
our game is played."
The tournament will be played at Henley Park, Mitchell Street,
Enfield on the Grounds of the Royal Blind Society. Play starts
on the 29th of December and continues through until the 9th and
10th of January when the final will be played between the two
leading states.
