From the moment that Australia won the first Test in Brisbane, the 5-0 series whitewash was the favourite scoreline in the correct score markets. And when Matthew Hayden hit the winning runs in Sydney on Friday, the home side completed the first whitewash in the Ashes since 1921.
England put up the minimum resistance on day four and Australia cruised to victory, rounding off what was about as one-sided a series as it's possible to imagine.
The tourists played well at times but when the crunch came, in almost every match, they were found wanting.
Things may be different come 2009 - there will be no Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Justin Langer, plus a few other members of the team - but for now, England have some serious work to do if they are to prove they can compete with Ricky Ponting's side.
