The tourists' modest first innings was put into perspective by Queensland's massive score, which featured maiden first-class hundreds from Nick Kruger (20 fours and five sixes) andWade Townsend, who together added 243 for the second wicket, and also by Nathan Reardon, who hit 15 fours and seven sixes and put on 156 for the sixth wicket with his captain Chris Simpson. Sulieman Benn took 1-151 in 34 overs. Starting their second innings 346 behind, the West Indians had a day plus 40 overs to survive - and did so with relative ease. Still there at the end were Denesh Ramdin, captaining because Chris Gayle had returned to Jamaica as his mother was ill, and the former Queensland player Brendan Nash.
