The Bahamas main domestic competition commenced last weekend with six teams contesting the first round of a 50-over-a-side league which will run until the end of May.
The competing teams are: Police, T-Bird, Heinekin Paradise, International Westerns, St.Agnes and Commonwealth. T-Bird's opening batsmen, Donnovan Morrison and Venris Bennett, found good form in a pre-season match, hitting 104 and 106 respectively in a 25-over innings.
Bahamas Cricket Association secretary, Gregory Taylor, has analysed the merits of each team: "T-Bird's Morrison is the most improved batter in the league this season and is holding his own for that team.
Police is the strongest side on paper but need to get their act together. Help is needed from Greg Taylor, who also has improved batting wise and Dwight Wheatley, the opening bat, need to concentrate more on staying at the wicket. Police has also acquired the fastest bowler in the League in Garcia Blair a 21 yr old who is very quick.
Heineken Paradise, last years champs, can still hold their own with the likes of Llewellyn & Gary Armstrong who are very good batsmen and bowlers. International Westerns always give you a run for your money but just can't seem to finish strongly enough, more concentration needed by both batsmen and bowlers.
St. Agnes CC has some very promising youths with the likes of Cody Dean, Cavin Neita & Capri Kemp. This team is geared to do very well this year, with the addition of two Sri Lankan players. Commonwealth CC mostly comprises Guyanese nationals who are doctors and won't concede defeat easily."
