the BCCI technical committee, headed by Sunil Gavaskar, has suggested that the Indian cricket board should apply drastic rule changes to domestic limited-over matches in line with current international cricket rules. The suggestions include the introduction of Supersubs, something that Gavaskar had earlier recommended to the ICC.
The technical committee also suggested that the Duckworth-Lewis method for calculating the run-rate in rain-hit one-day matches in domestic cricket should be replaced by a formula created by V Jayadevan, a Kerala-based engineer. It has further recommended the introduction of third umpires and light meters in all domestic matches.
SK Nair, the BCCI secretary, said that decisions on this matter would be taken only after the finalisation of television rights for cricket coverage, including domestic cricket.
Meanwhile, Prasar Bharti, the national broadcaster, warned the BCCI not to bundle the terrestrial and satellite rights for its domestic matches. In a letter to the BCCI, KS Sarma, the Prasar Bharti chief said that only it had the terrestrial network for television in India, and therefore "terrestrial rights cannot be given to anyone else." The Indian Express said that the letter was sent following recent announcements by the BCCI inviting bids for telecast rights for international matches to be played in the country over the next four or five years.
