An X-ray has confirmed that Australia fast bowler Andrew Bichel has suffered a slight chip fracture to the end of his left index finger.
However, it is not expected to prevent him from continuing to play a full part in the remainder of the fifth Orange Test match against England in Sydney.
Bichel suffered the injury as he thrust out his left hand to stop a straight drive from England captain Nasser Hussain during the first day's play on Thursday.
He received on-field treatment from Australian team physiotherapist Errol Alcott before going for the X-ray at stumps.
After the results of the X-ray were revealed, Alcott said: "The finger will be protected and splinted and it should not prevent Andy from taking further part in the Test match.
"We will then review his condition at the end of the game," he added.
