Stuart Broad makes his England A debut today after fellow seam bowler Alex Wharf failed a fitness test on hisankle. Luke Wright will have to wait for his moment in the sun, however, after Sajid Mahmood recovered from a groin injury in time for the second Test against West Indies A. The home side won the toss and inserted England, who are chasing a first win after losing the first Test by one wicket.
Broad, 19, was only called to the Caribbean on Monday to fill a gap in the squad left by players heading to India to bolster the senior side. Wright, 20, and the opener Ravi Bopara also got the nod.
Peter Moores, their coach at the National Academy in Loughborough where they have been netting this winter, believes that Broad will be able to handle any pressure. "It will be great experience for them," Moores told the ECB's website.
"They've worked hard this winter and can show they are now ready to make their mark. They'll go back to county cricket after this tour and it's important they perform here but also in county cricket to really keep their careers moving forward."
West Indies A will not keep the same side for the match which is at Beausejour in St Lucia. Patrick Browne will take over the keeping duties from Carlton Baugh, while Gavin Tonge, 23, replaces fellow fast bowler Jermaine Jawson.
