The Cricket Association of Bengal is not very keen to host the
preparatory camp for the Asia Cup in Calcutta. According to
information available from the CAB, the association will be hosting
the annual under-13 tournament at the Eden Gardens during the same
time the camp is scheduled to take place. Another important factor is
the monsoon showers that hit the city at that particular time of the
year. The CAB is planning to inform the BCCI regarding its inability
to host the camp. It may be added here that Indian captain Sourav
Ganguly had wanted the camp in Calcutta as the weather conditions here
will be similar to those prevailing in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Ganguly has been excused by the
BCCI from attending the meeting in New Delhi on April 27. The meeting
has been called by the Union Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. In
an interview to a local daily in Calcutta over the phone, Ganguly has
stated, ``the meeting falls on what will be the second day of
Lancshire's opening match against Kent. The invitation had come from
the BCCI to attend the meeting. I replied stating my situation. The
BCCI then sent me a message stating that I had been excused." Ganguly
has also stated that he will be only to happy to state his views
regarding cricket's blackest episode should the Sports Ministry or the
BCCI need it.
