Canterbury Kiwis one from two over the weekend

The Canterbury Kiwis recorded a convincing 71-run win against Armidale in the third match of their Australian tour, but not before a few frights along the way

The Canterbury Kiwis recorded a convincing 71-run win against Armidale in the third match of their Australian tour, but not before a few frights along the way.
Batting first the Kiwis were in early trouble at 49/4 before Josh Coll and Alex Hedges came together for a match saving partnership. Hedges made 34, while Josh Coll went on to be 100 not out at the completion of 50 overs. The Kiwis ended with 204/7.
The Kiwis put in a consistent bowling and fielding display as Armidale were all out for 134 in the 39th over. Best bowlers included Scott Bermingham who took 2-21, Iain Robertson (2-23) and Fraser Hawes (2-44).
The Kiwis' fourth game of their Australian tour was an exciting affair, losing on the second to last ball against a strong Inverell side.
Batting first, the Kiwis conjured up 194/7 off their 50 overs. Opener James Biddick carried his bat, making 79 not out. He was ably supported by Michael Jones (34) and Bernhard Ballin (28).
A sharp bowling and fielding display was required, but unfortunately the intensity from previous games was lacking. It took 26 overs to make a breakthrough and while wickets fell steadily from this point onwards, Inverell always had victory in their sights. With two balls remaining the winning runs were struck, Inverell reaching 195/7. Best of the bowlers was Chris Sowden who took 4-45.
The Kiwis now travel for Tamworth for their next 50-over game.
