XXXX Queensland Bulls One Day debutant Lee Carseldine will have to prove his fitness to the State selectors at training tomorrow before he is cleared to take his spot in Sunday's Mercantile Mutual Cup Semi-Final against NSW at Allan Border Field.
Carseldine, called into the team in place of Australian One Day player Matthew Hayden, suffered a back strain while practising with Queensland Academy of Sport team on the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday.
He trained lightly with the Bulls yesterday but will have to satisfy the selectors and coach Bennett King of his ability to bat, bowl and field at the team's session tomorrow at Allan Border Field.
"We're confident Lee will be right to play on Sunday but obviously we want to know for certain," King said. "A semi-final is not the sort of match that you want to go into carrying an injury."
There was better news on the injury front from allrounder Dale Turner, who suffered a minor groin strain in the Bulls' thumping win over the Southern Redbacks last Sunday. Turner, arguably the team's most dynamic fielder in absence of Andrew Symonds, trained without incident yesterday and will take his spot in the side on Sunday.
Carseldine is expected to bat in the middle order if fit, with Martin Love the most likely candidate to open the batting in place of Hayden. Love needs 83 runs to pass 1000 domestic one day runs for Queensland.
