Former England Women's captain Charlotte Edwards and 2009 Wisden Cricketer of the Year Claire Taylor have been included in a 14-member touring squad for the Marylebone Cricket Club's maiden tour to the USA and Canada. The squad arrives in Philadelphia on September 7.

Edwards captained Southern Vipers to a championship in the inaugural edition of ECB's Women's Super League in August, just three months after announcing her international retirement. Edwards, the all-time leading scorer in Women's ODIs and T20Is, captained England to the Women's World Cup and World T20 titles in 2009.

A legend of the women's game, Taylor was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours List for 2010 following on from her Wisden distinction from 2009. She was the leading scorer in the 2009 Women's World Cup in Australia, where England beat New Zealand in the final.

She was named Player of the Tournament again at home three months later, after scoring 199 runs while being dismissed just once in five matches as England completed the championship double with another win over New Zealand. Taylor scored eight ODI centuries in her career, tied for second-most all-time behind the nine made by Edwards.

The MCC Women's tour begins with two T20s against a USA split squad on Saturday September 10 followed by a game against the USA Women on September 11 at prestigious Merion Cricket Club. The MCC side then heads north of the border to Toronto where they'll play a series of four matches against invitational sides beginning with a T20 and 50-over games at the Toronto Cricket, Skating & Curling Club on September 14 and 15.

The squad also includes one more former women's international in Bev Nicholson, who played six ODIs for England between 1996 and 1999. The rest of the squad is comprised mainly of current or former women's county players.

MCC Women's squad: Claire Taylor (capt), Bev Nicholson (vc), Aylish Cranstone, Charlotte Edwards, Emma Elsom, Emma Godman, Sinead Goodden (wk), Raveena Lakhtaria, Hazel Lovegrove, Sarah McCann, Nicole Richards, Marilyn Smith, Charlotte Williams, Judy Wilmot
