Stuart Clark was canny as ever for New South Wales in their must-win game. It was the tall right-arm fast bowler who did the major damage, coming to the party in style and shutting out any hopes that Somerset had of making it to the final four.
While the platform was set by Brett Lee, the pressure eventually told on the openers Justin Langer and Craig Kieswetter who tried to break free against Clark and threw their wickets away.
Clark was steady as ever with his back-of-length deliveries, getting them to cut either way. He was introduced into the attack in the fifth over and swung into action immediately with a double strike. He induced Kieswetter into holing out to mid-on off the second ball of his first over. One ball later, he had Justin Langer swinging without control to Nathan Hauritz at deep midwicket.
It was a killer double blow, one from which Somerset never really recovered. And Clark came storming back In the next over. He got one to kick up from short of length and had James Hildreth top edging an attempted pull to fine-leg. Doug Bollinger made no mistake to hand Clark his third wicket. Clark was certainly having some effect Clark on Somerset with batsmen trying to get off the strike. And Arul Suppiah perished doing just that, run out for eight.
Clark deservedly won Man of the Match after giving away just 15 runs in his four overs, as New South Wales romped to the semi-finals in style.
