Damien Martyn has been removed from Nottinghamshire's plans for the forthcoming season, after it was decided he would not be available for a long enough period of time. In his place, Notts have drafted in the Victorian batsman, David Hussey, who had already been on their books as cover.
Martyn is currently suffering from a knee injury, and would not have been available ahead of Australia's tour to Zimbabwe in May. "It would effectively mean he would only be able to join us for a six-week period," said coach Mick Newell. "That doesn't fit in with our plans."
Hussey, 26, on the other hand, will be available throughout the season - national call-ups permitting. He is the younger brother of Mike, who was Northants's star for the past three seasons. "We are very excited by the prospect of having David with us for the whole season," said Newell. "David is a very attack-minded player and the thought of him linking up with Kevin Pietersen in our middle order is a very exciting one."
