England rebound offers some value

With the second Test starting on Sunday, England have little time to think about what went wrong in Multan on day five as they allowed Pakistan to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series

With the second Test starting on Sunday, England have little time to think about what went wrong in Multan on day five as they allowed Pakistan to win the match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series. England are 2/1 (3.00) to square the series with victory in Faisalabad, while Pakistan are 12/5 (3.40) to clinch the series and the draw is a 23/20 (2.15) chance.
When England look back at events in Multan they should not be too downhearted. They dominated the first three days and even though Pakistan fought hard on the fourth, they were still in pole position going into the final day, only for the batting to fail. If they can put that out of their heads, then there is no reason why they can't get back on even terms. Plus, the likely return of captain Michael Vaughan will be a big boost, even though Marcus Trescothick did little wrong as skipper.
As we've said previously, all three Tests between the two sides in Faisalabad have been draws, but though the Multan match went to five days and though the pitches don't lend themselves naturally to fast scoring, it's hard to see England drawing a Test these days, given their attacking nature.
In England's favour, Pakistan have won just six of the 22 Tests in Faisalabad, while they have lost five and drawn the other 11. Considering that Pakistan are no world-beaters, odds of 2/1 on an England win are not bad at all.
