England showed once again how resilient a side they have become in the past few years as they shrugged off their injury problems to crush Pakistan inside only three days to win the second Test and take a 1-0 lead in the four-game series.
Steve Harmison and Monty Panesar ripped through the much-vaunted Pakistan batting line-up and with momentum in their favour, they will be confident of clinching an unassailable series lead by winning the second Test, which begins at Headingley on Friday.
The performances of Ian Bell and Alastair Cook, who made centuries for the second Test in succession, will have given the England management a huge boost, especially in the absence of the injured Andrew Flintoff.
And Pakistan will now have to produce a big turnaround in fortunes if they are to get back into the series.
England are 2/7 (1.28) to win the series from this position while Pakistan are 12/1 (13.00) to come from behind for what would be a remarkable victory.
The draw, still an option given the talent of the Pakistan side, is 100/30 (4.33).
