ESPNcricinfo launches iPhone app

ESPNcricinfo has launched a new cricket app for Apple iPhone and Android devices, which will give users enhanced coverage of the World Cup 2011 and much more. The app continues ESPNcricinfo's push to develop its content for mobile devices, and is part of an overall effort to provide cricket fans access to information no matter what device they are on.

The standout features of the app include a dedicated World Cup section, an enhanced live game experience, easy personalisation options and Push alerts. iPhone and Android users can also access their favourite magazine content, ranging from Ask Steven columns to opinion pieces from the game's leading writers.

The app will also allow users to watch and listen to the latest ESPNcricinfo video and audio podcasts. The website's regular podcasts include Bowl at Boycs, with former England opener Geoffrey Boycott, and Switch Hit, a weekly round-table discussion on the pressing issues of the day. Video content includes team press conferences, interviews and specials.

The app also adds two new dimensions to live match coverage. You can set the app to "lean back mode", which allows you to place your iPhone or iPod Touch on the table and follow live scores while you pound away at your keyboard at work. iPhone users have the option to set "Push Notifications", which deliver instant alerts every time a wicket falls or a batsman reaches a milestone, as well as providing score updates during live matches. Users will also be able to customise news, results and other updates by their favourite team.

The ESPNcricinfo iPhone app is currently the top free app in India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and the No.1 sports app in six countries, including Australia and New Zealand. The Android version is scheduled to launch on February 14.
