ICC Development (Africa) Media Release

The first ever ICC Introductory Instructor's Course for the Africa Region started today at the Wits Technikon in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Countries represented at this course include, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. These nominee's will be assessed and accredited and then will have the responsibility to conduct the course in his country on behalf of the ICC.
Due to problems with travel documentation the candidate from Kenya had to miss out on this opportunity.
In previous years the process of training adults in the Africa Region to obtain these skills has been facilitated by ICC instructors from South Africa. This process was deemed to be unsustainable in the long term however, and therefore the Africa Development Program has now instituted a plan to educate local volunteer instructors to conduct Introductory courses on behalf of the ICC.
The Regional Development Manager, Hoosain Ayob said: "This is an exciting initiative, in that it gives regional countries ownership over their cricket education programs. If successful, these locally conducted courses will go a long way to guaranteeing the future of cricket throughout the Africa Region."
